For me there is nothing interesting about it. It is purely practical. People accidentally drop things, and sometimes when they do they drop them onto the screens or the screens themselves drop. In some cases, this saves the person from having the device's screen ruined, which is far more expensive than replacing a sacrificial protector. Accidents happen. It's like cheap screen insurance.I don't use screen protectors on any screen. And actually find the fascination of people to insist that they use them to be interesting.
Additionally, as noted above, screen protectors can cut down on the appearance of fingerprints. Since we all have witnessed the wraps on the vehicle as a whole, many of which were inspired by wanting to reduce fingerprints, I personally see this as an obvious extension of the same concept. There is no fascination. I personally find it rather banal, rather than interesting.
To each their own.
Cheers
