Probably depends on a bunch of different factors and like most things, it’s an individuals comfort level with risk potential/probability. Mine is generally staged on my last open roof appliqué mount but there are some situations where it would prove more beneficial inside so that’s why I’m testing it.

we just finished a 2700 mile RT holiday visit FSD drive, east coast
great having internet all of the time

one question, we should make sure the dish points to the front of the truck for the best case, minimal obstructions vs toward the side for the best cable routing

So it does have a thread hole.? In the Amazon pics is pictured without one. Is this the original piece that came with the weighted base?
That’s correct. The base comes exactly as shown in the picture. That central piece is already attached to the weighted base. There’s a 1/4” thread hole on the base and that’s what is used to attach it to the Peak-Do. I had to purchase the 1/4” male to male screw separately. You can see the screw attached to the base in this picture.

they also sell the weighted base individually, if you already have a magnetic camera mount

External mount from Mars AG:
https://marsag.co/collections/parts-accessories/products/expedition-starlink-mini-mount-1

Suits our needs perfectly as didn't want it inside the cabin for extended periods of time.
The mount doesn’t allow the PeakDo to be directly attached as intended, but I can plug it in through an extension cable.

Mount is extremely sturdy and signal has been fantastic. I’m powering it through the 110 in the bed and need to play with the wiring still and the best way to hide and protect it.

The silicone cover has worked well so far, although it is prone to someone coming by and just taking it off.

Working on a winter write up but though 2+ weeks of snow, the mini and its snow melt feature were outstanding! It easily dealt with snow accumulation between 1-2” per hour but during our heaviest of storms, it couldn’t clear it all quick enough and there was some ice accumulation. That occurred when we were getting 3”+/hr and temps in the teens.

Congrats! You’ll love it!

I’ve always had a strange reaction when holding mobile phones next to my head, so it’s more precautionary than any hard science. Just want to limit RF exposure but I guess I could put tinfoil underneath it as well. Chances are of course slim, but also didn’t want something like that above our head in case of accident. Again, nothing more than just personal choices and preferences. Also like the look of it on the back. Haha!!

Yes, that would work perfectly but then I’m limited to the battery life on the Peakdo. What I think I’ve decided on, is continuing to run it from the 110v and then have the PeakDo mounted in the bed and just transferring the power cord to it, if I ever need to use it while charging.
