I did a 10 day road trip going San Diego to Seattle hugging the coast on the way up and mostly highway on the way back. Sightseeing on the 101 and picked up my son who was interning in Redmond and brought back all his stuff.

the cybertruck was marvelous. Such and easy vehicle to drive. I thought I would get mad at the seats and brought a few shallow pillows just to change the feel every once in a while but never needed them. Effective range going up (1600mi) approx 308/100% (it’s the beast) and perhaps 290/100% coming down (driving a bit more aggressively on the I5).

Visited a few out of the way sight seeing locations such as hurricane ridge in Olympic nat. Park and the fern Forrest in Priary nat. Park near Crescent city. Had no charging issues whatsoever, though a few charger locations in Oregon were quite small and a bit hard to get into and others in Seattle “conveniently” located on a pay for parking lot.

Used FSD a considerable amount but I found driving the 101 myself is more enjoyable. On the straight of the i5, FSD is nice but I felt it was constantly putting me in the truck lane unnecessarily (chill mode on). Also, I feel it is slow to pass cars and get back in the lane but quick to cut off cars coming from behind when passing. It’s good, helpful and all but clearly improvements are necessary.

Got some hateful looks and a finger or two here and there but also folks being very interested, particularly the kids. Except for some of the beach towns, I’d say most are used to the truck and pay it little attention. In Lincoln city is where I got most of the hate - after having ignored a handful of middle fingers and a few shouts I flipped the bird to one guy in jeep in opposite traffic who felt it necessary to hang out most of his torso while yelling f this and f that. Apperantly he didn’t like my finger and made a u turn right across the double yellow lines. He hadn’t noticed the black and white behind him apperantly, who stopped him right there. Left me grinning all the way to Tillamook :)

I think I want a sticker that says “I bought mine before y’all went batshit crazy”

All in all a fantastic drive, couldn’t be more pleased with the truck.

Great trip indeed. Did the same going up on 5 and down from Portland on 101. Stopped at few of the costal towns on the way back. I was lucky, no finger salutes to my knowledge- my windows are tinted😎

That's what FSD does in Chill Mode. Most people run in Standard or Hurry for that reason. It won't go into the truck lane at all in most situations in Hurry Mode.

Thank you for this inspiring trip summary.

Did you camp using your CT or stays at some motels or Airbnbs ?

Your trip remind me about the following videos:
- Tesla Driving the FULL LENGTH OF the Pacific Coast Highway (1500 MILES) | Part 1
- Tesla Driving the FULL LENGTH OF the Pacific Coast Highway (1500 MILES) | Part 2

Note: I plan to go hiking in the fall at some look out around the Mount Shasta.
So the Fern Canyon at Prairie Creek Redwoods National Park that you mentioned
will certainly also part of my visit.

I have used hurry and standard but experienced quite a few near misses with the truck cutting off other cars coming up from behind me as well as way to erratic weaving on the 405 - which is_not_ the highway to try out on. That was a previous version so perhaps i should give standard another try.

Just hotels this time. I sleep in the truck (cabin or bed) often enough when out on missions so wanted a bed and shower this time :)

For fern cayon you need to drive up on a narrowish gravel road and cross two creeks. On the forums this was made out to be some sort of hazardous road only the most daring should try - nothing farther from the truth. The “creeks” were 1 or 2 inch puddles perhaps 10ft wide. In spring this is probably different. A bit of manoevering is necessary in case of opposite traffic but 4 wheel steering is there to help. Just be sure to get reasonable charge; from Cresent city down and back was 40pct if i recall and the one 6 stall charger in cresent city was not busy. The cayon is certainly worth a visit. Shasta looked magnificant, just from the highway, we had no time to stop.

Did you hit any hidden gems off the beaten path, like quirky roadside diners or secret viewpoints?
There are “hidden” gems everywhere on the 101 ! Just south of Florence we were looking for “a dune” my wife had read about, it seemed we passed it already. While parked along the road figuring stuff out, some 20yo kid slowly steps around the car - didn’t see us in it. Should we be ready for a quick get away, i thought? But no, turned out he and his girlfriend (?) just stepped out their house to get a better look at the truck, they had never seen one. After giving them the nickle tour, they directed us to an exit nearby and a few miles later we are at an absolutely marvelous beach, golden sand, fog enclosing us, nobody else. surreal. My dog ran out into the fog, couldn’t see nor hear him anymore, then all of a sudden came back from the other side
magic! (Made a big loop around us, fog was too dense to see that). Just sand, sea, and a bit of sun, zen moment.

Oh and in Coos bay we stumbled across a quirky german restaurant (Blue Heron if i remember correctly) with a great snitzel - i am still salivating. Can’t get those in san diego.

i generally plan very little on trips, just the big brush strokes where we’re going so that tends to lead to several surprises, usually good ones. If you’re inclined to do some road tripping, this truck is perfect for it.
