Tesla's willingness to mothball the Model S & Model X shows, they are thinking correctly, and not keeping a production line going for a low-volume vehicle, even if it was their first production vehicle (Model S, it was my first Tesla a 2013 Model S, came with ALL of the "Early Adopter" issues)

This could certainly be trouble for the Cybertruck. A prediciton is, when CyberTaxi enters massmarket production, and/or Optimus needs to be produced before it's dedicated building is finished construction, it will certainly be on the chopping block, if the volume continues to be very low.. maybe they will redesign it, but they don't seem to be in the "let's make a new vehicle" mindset, they pretty much said they are done manufacturing vehicles for the consumer EV market, it is all in on RoboTaxi and Optimus.. Other than delivering a few thousand new Roadsters, I don't believe they intend to make any new designs.

Elon Musk just confirmed on the Q4 earnings call that Tesla is officially ending Model S and X production.

Moving forward, Tesla will be coming out with bigger and better products
Like the Roadster:love:
I'll take one in Ultra red, please🥰

No sympathy for all the personal-injury lawyers? They won’t even be able to DoorDash
They will be fine, they go after Tesla when there is an accident. Might be a rare, but much bigger pockets.

CT in 2026?
Country flag
Good riddance.

The low volume X and S needed the 10+ year old platforms to be refreshed from the ground up to remain competitive. It simply didn't make sense from a financial point of view. Also, the market for luxury sedans is virtually dead in America. SUV's and trucks are what's selling.

We'll see how the stock market reacts to today's announcements.

Ok, so CT will be the next one to be cut. Tesla is on a different path. I want to keep driving my own vehicle as long as it is safe to do so.
I doubt it because of Elon's huge ego. Discontinuing the 2 year old CT would be Elon admitting defeat. Tesla wants the Cybertruck to become an autonomous delivery pickup truck of the future.

Sorry to hear the Model S/X will be discontinued.

Our first Tesla was a 2019 Model S LR, and we loved it. The styling was almost timeless.

Same same. Our x is the second iteration and is by far my favorite Tesla for day to day use.
it however probably cannot sell in the same market as the model Y-L which is essentially the same assembly line and parts pool as the regular Y and will take over X’s spot in the market. The M3P has already largely supplanted the plaid S. It’s a good business move but a sad day for us veteran Tesla owners.

I would say this is an unlikely situation. Tesla needs to sell 20m cars to reach one of the Elon tranches and 10m FSD subscriptions for another. IMO a takerate of 50% overall is unlikely, so really need more than 20m in total sales... or ~11m more at minimum and with a reasonable take rate (and significantly higher than now), more like ~20m in sales. They can't do that without more designs. They'll all be mass market sort or have a commercial base. No more niche vehicles after Roadster.

I want to drive my own vehicle by myself. Otherwise, I could have Ubered all along. CT is dead if they convert the production line to build autonomous CTs for 'local cargo delivery' .

July 13th 2013 was the first time I saw a Model S in person. I know because I still have the picture taken on my iPhone 4S LOL at the time. Look how many iterations of iPhones have gone by but the design of the Model S stayed the same. It still is a great design.

Oh crap; I hope my Cybertruck gets built before they shut it down too. I was thinking Cybertruck would only last till the end of 2026, a 3 year production run.
