Hydrophobic Rear Camera Cover by Abstract Ocean - excellent!

First, I have no relationship to Abstract Ocean other than being a surprised and happy customer. I live in the PNW, and rain is a frequent occurrence. In my experience, rain and wet roads tend to make the stock rear camera nearly useless as it quickly gets a film of water on it and vision degrades immensely.

A month or so ago, I ordered @AO-Pete's Abstract Ocean's hydrophobic rear camera cover for the CT. I was dubious, but figured it was cheap enough to try. Finally got enough rain and wet to try it today - and holy crap, this thing is no joke! Put some miles on the truck today in crappy weather, which would previously have made the rear camera into a gray blurry mess, and it remained nearly crystal clear.

I don't know how long the hydrophobic film will last, but for $25 I highly recommend picking one up if you live in rain country, or are entering rainy season. I just ordered a second one so I've got one queued up with the first eventually fails. (disclaimer: AO sent me a discount coupon for the second one, as they've addressed some of the view angle concerns on the first version).

Awesome. Yesterday I ordered the version 2 of the rear camera cover from @AO-Pete . I returned version 1 since it showed too much of the edges when zoomed out.

Yeah, that is a bit weird (with V1, no idea about V2 yet). I keep my rear view camera view zoomed in a bit, so I didn't bother me in normal driving. But it's weird when you look at the full view for, like, backing in to something.

I live in the PNW and have V1 installed. Several roadtrips and can confirm it works great. I signed up for the “subscription” and they shipped a V2 to me at no cost,haven’t installed it yet. Want to see when the hydrophobic coating will wear off - but it’s working like a champ.

Thanks for that feedback - that have quite a few interesting things on their site I'd like to buy, so hopefully the order gets resolved. Apologies to the OP - didn't mean to hijack this thread - just was genuinely curious if AO is legit. It appears they are.

It worked great on our sloppy British Columbia road trip in January. How long it works well for is the unknown. If I get 3-4 months out of it with this performance, it’s a good value.

Here is what my v1 looked like after getting CT washed today. Water is inside the cover. After an hour driving around and sitting it is still wet inside the cover and I"ll probably have to remove it I ordered a v2 so hopefully it will not do this again with water getting inside.

Oh wow, I hope this isn't an issue with v2 also. That's crazy.

Any idea how hard they are to remove? Does it leave a residue? Or does it come off cleanly? I'm guessing it must come off cleanly, given they offer a subscription.

Wow! That's not good. I've taken mine through a touchless (high pressure) car wash with no problems - maybe there was a some dirt or something on your camera housing that kept it from getting a good seal?
