We’re seeing more builds running spray-in + drop-in together. And yeah, the first reaction is usually: “If I already paid for a spray-in, why add a drop-in—isn’t that wasting money?”

Short answer from a lot of real-world users: extra cushion, less rattle, better grip, and a sacrificial layer that keeps your spray-in from getting gouged when you chuck sharp or heavy stuff.

And we’ve been combing through pickup forums across models and the theme is consistent, check what they've said.

So here's the conclusion:
  1. Spray-ins are great and look clean, but they’re not perfect.
  2. Stacking a drop-in on top can solve specific pain points (noise, slide, impact).
Owners shared a ton of useful experiences—we figured it’s worth a proper poll here.
And...here comes our question:
If you already have a spray-in, would you add a drop-in on top?
• Yes — extra protection/grip is worth it
• Maybe — depends on price/fit/weight
• No — spray-in is enough
• Not sure — convince me in the comments

To make this useful and fun, we are hoping you can share your opinion down below this thread, and we are select one winner giving away 2 sets of bed mat to him/her or his/her friend from this forum

Here's the rule:
• Comment your take on spray-in + drop-in (real experience or what’s holding you back).
@TAG one forum friend who’d have an opinion.
We’ll randomly pick one comment and send two bed mats — one to the commenter and one to the tagged friend.
• Multiple thoughtful comments = better odds, but one set max per person.

House rules

Keep it friendly, respect different setups, and skip the brand bashing. Real-world experience beats hot takes.

Dropping a few use-case screenshots below to spark ideas. Your pics welcome — especially that “one load that sold me” moment. Fire away 👇

meh for me. I’d go with a removable bed mat before adding a spray in liner since most of my use is light duty suburban life stuff. most I carry is 12 bags of salt for my water softener or a Home Depot run for a house project. It does get filled to the gills on college move ins though.

After 18 months I’ve noticed no real wear. Some discoloration from water intrusion but it’s a truck bed so it doesn’t bother me.

A silicone bed mat in a hex pattern for shock absorption might be nice for heavier loads and to keep things from moving around, but it would somehow have to work with the bed divider.

just my 1.3 cents (damn inflation)

I don't have a spray in on my CT, but I've thought about it - mainly because of the staining the water leaks leave and how easy the plastic scratches. I don't see the harm in having both and putting a mat on top of it. However, I think most people who do a spray in are actually using it as a work truck so they know it's going to get beat to hell. From my experience the liners are pretty damn durable and last a while.

@hemiarch - you won the mats, might as well have the whole set.
I actually got a bed mat from them too. Thank you for that 3w. The mats themselves aren’t here yet but the bed liner is.
I have to say…it’s significantly better quality than the Amazon stuff I’ve seen before. It’s thicker and more conformed to the slats. Very nice. Texturally it’s also very slip resistant which is what I think you want in this type of mat.
It’s nice enough I’m considering using it long term although I really do like my t-mats and I think the two are mutually exclusive.
Not sure what drives the decision to make cutting out the d-ring holes a customer diy project because if you’re using one of these those are probably the best way to secure stuff to the floor, but that’s a minor quibble relatively speaking.
I have two sets of the Tesla all weather mats and a set of 3d maxspiders that are already a pain to store. I know, “first world problems”.
Point is, the 3w mats will have to be pretty awesome to replace the Tesla ones honestly. Those are very very good.
Which brings me to another point, if you’re hurting for nice mats in the greater Phoenix area, hit me up with a DM and maybe we can work something out? A trade or barter that will result in me having more garage space would make me pretty happy.
I imagine there have to be some people on here by now who bought a non-FS truck and could use them.

I figured you were more likely to respond, I adjusted so you don't have a garage filled with mats...

I got to this thread early and it says 2 people win, just wanted to share the love. I figured you'd want the complete set. Didn't know you had won the bed one too.

SSSHHHH - we don't talk about that until after tomorrow.
Like I said, I never win anything. Even on the previous contest you won from @3Wliners Carmats there was the bonus question, I'm pretty sure I was the only one who answered and I still didn't win. lol.

After not being able to find anything that would get the original bed clean, I looked for a bed mat that had holes for D rings, folded for the under-bed storage, and a cover for the tailgate. I found one on Amazon that fit and it has been satisfactory. I can pull it and stuff that might be on it out to clean it and put it back. For the low price, I can replace it if it gets damaged. The tailgate mat has been annoying. Because there is no good way to attach a protective mat without drilling holes, the mat it attached with Velcro, which, of course comes loose, can interfere with the tonneau, etc. To me, it seems that the tailgate takes more abuse with loading and unloading than the main part of the bed, so I would definitely get something that would protect the tailgate better. I’m not a fan of spray-in, especially the bottom of the bed and tailgate. My previous truck had spray-in, which scraped, and a bed mat, which did the job. Tailgate was protected by mat held on by screws. I just don’t want to drill holes in the tailgate of my CT!

In thinking about the bed mat, I have the OEM spare wheel and tire abutted by the bed divider. A mat with a zipper or other way to remove the section that would fall under the spare would be great. Then I don't have to worry about manually cutting it since the feet of the bed divider leave no clearance for a mat to come underneath them.

Or maybe a foldable section that I could instead clamp to the bed divider? So those who want it covering the full bed unfurl it all the way and those with a spare can roll/fold up the section closest to the cabin and strap it to the bed divider?

Just an idea.

I thought about getting a spray in or drop in, but then I thought "It's a TRUCK" and whatever I would put in back there would get all scratched up anyway...

I figure that IF we ever decide to sell it, then we can get a spray-in right BEFORE we sell it so it looks all new... But for now... IT'S A TRUCK!

Appreciate it!!!! The bed mat they have actually looks way better than the cheap-o one I originally got from amazon when I first got the truck.

I agree. It’s a night and day difference from those. I understand they are both just a piece of rubbery stuff but thickness, pliability and texture are a step up from those.

Oh my gosh, that’s an amazing compliment! 😂 We're so stoked that you’re loving the bed liner! As for the T-mats vs 3W situation, well, after rocking T-mats for so long, it’s definitely time for an upgrade... just kidding! We're thrilled to be your new fave😂

Regarding your question, we’ve had some feedback on the DIY cutouts—people like having the freedom to decide if they want to cut the holes themselves. We didn’t want to make that decision for you, since once that hole is cut, it’s permanent. We think it’s best to give customers the flexibility to decide for themselves. Hope that clears it up!🤗
