I agree. That’s very steep.
let’s say you’re in Vancouver and buy a car in Seattle? How does it work if you want to bring it back with you?
Or in Montreal and you buy a car in Vermont.
Right now you get tariffed. In normal times you get dutied. I've looked at it a lot because the markup for premium cars is often greater than the dollar difference. Companies gouge Canada. I was looking at importing a BMW 430 convertible from FLA and the savings even with the duty was greater than 10%. Not the case with Tesla though, their markup is pretty much exactly the dollar diff. But the Tariff still applies. US often has better quarter ending incentives and financing, but again that's useless for importing a car. So now I wait, take some Cybertruck test drives and drool with envy. And wait for the government to either do something or get brought down and voted out.

Yup, Tariffs apply there too. To Tesla's anyway. The government here really hates Elon haha. Two payments left on my car, so I'm giving the Prime Minister 60 days to get a deal worked out or I'm running for office haha.

Utter bullshit. I had heard Tesla was going to import European built model y’s to Canada to counteract some of the tariff issues.
true?

I was hoping Elon was going to have the presidents ear and get some kickbacks directed at EVs, the opposite seems to be the case.
That makes no sense. Elon has never believed in "kickbacks" or subsidies of any kind. He's been on the record for over a decade saying all subsidies should go away, including the billions of dollars to the oil and gas industries. I'm with Elon on this.

The naysayers say, "waddya mean, Tesla gets tax subsidies every time they build a new factory, their EVs and batteries are subsidized, etc." All true. But that's because they are available and their competitors have access to them too. Elon wants an even playing field for everyone.

He didn't get involved in politics to get favors granted to him, he got involved because he saw the train wreck that was coming if we elected more of the same! And, much to the chagrin of the far left, he was on the winning side!

So does Canada see imports of the Chinese EV’s we don’t see here? BYD, NIO, Xpeng, li auto etc?
Are they running around in Montreal and Toronto daily?

Yes, you can now buy a tariff-free Model Y in Canada imported from Germany. The rest of the lineup is still tariffed. It is total bullshit. The government claims to have the "climate crisis" as a top priority and pushing EV's... but only tariffing the 100% EV manufacturing companies with tariffs while gas cars are tariff free. It's ridiculous, and entirely political. Elon backed Trump, but also backed the opposition party in Canada, mocked former PM Trudeau on X, and donated to the anti-lockdown protests. It's retaliation on Elon disguised as fighting back on Trump's tariffs.

I just want my truck FFS!

Canada has a 100% tariff on Chinese EV imports, including Teslas. I probably agree with that in principle, I think the North American auto market needs to be protected a bit as we transition to EV's. But China retaliated with a big tariff on Canadian canola oil imports. So Canada is taking it from all sides right now, and without dinner and a movie first. The economy contracted 1.6% in the last report.

Someone in a local EV forum just said they can't post the source (Canada has blocks on sharing news on social media) but that the PM was looking at dropping EV tariffs. I'm hoping that means US EV's first, not Chinese.

Manitoba here. Not a lot of superchargers, but enough if you plan and pay attention. I missed the 0% and the life time supercharging, but I charge it at home, so no big deal. And it's almost paid off. 9.5 cents per KW means I can charge to 100% from 20% for about $9.00 CAD. My Lincoln Mark LT takes about $150.00 CAD to fill it. Not even close. And the CT is way more fun.
Good acceptance up here too. One middle finger who was allowed to get away with it because I promised my wife I wouldn't fight any more. (she caught me in a weak moment. My ribs were still healing. Haha).
I've owned dozens of vehicles including an Amphicar and a Delorean. This is right up there as far as the 'cool' factor.
Now we need a 4 seater convertible with a retractable top that goes into the trunk and suicide doors---maybe a bit like the 63 Lincoln I owned. I would buy it in a second.
Take care all.

Just curious. I feel like I don’t hear that much about the experience of owning one of these north of the border.
Is it very different? Are there a lot of superchargers? Are the tariffs making them impossible to buy? Is free supercharging a thing up there? Are there a lot of service centers etc. how expensive is home charging?
does navigation and FSD work well throughout Canada? I have many questions.
Please educate me.

It seems like there are a lot of Canadian riders on this topic. If anyone's interested, I have a limited special discount on these items for Canadian riders on the forum. If you like them, please PM me.

So a gentleman named Kai from Tesstudio contacted me to ask if I knew any Canadian Cybertruck owners and I immediately thought of this thread.
Apparently his company has some stuff that they want to sell in Canada only for whatever reason and is willing to offer a good discount for, but they are hesitant to advertise it as such on here because the majority of users are not Canadian.
I told him I’d share that information with my Canadian friends so that if anyone is interested they can DM him.
To be clear, I’m not involved with them, I don’t know what they are selling and at what price (expect that it’s supposed to be better than what they are offering to American customers) and I’m not endorsing anything they say or do.
Just trying to make a connection that’s potentially helpful for you guys.
If any of you are looking at buying Tesstudio stuff, DM them first rather than buying on the website and hopefully they will make it worthwhile for you.
I was looking for a clever way to end this message and found this fun little list.
Is any of this true?

And there you have it. He already posted immediately above me. Not sure why I couldn’t see it before. Hope it helps someone here. Doesn’t really say what he’s selling though. Kai?
