They will sell a ton of these if they can mass produce it just because it's so cheap. You don't realize how desperate people are for cheap, reliable transportation.

Really surprised at how low the payload and towing is though! It's more a cheap car that happens to be in a truck/suv form factor than a truck.

BTW, this same need for cheap transportation will also be displayed once Robotaxi's are everywhere. Most people will probably prefer to own their own car but won't, since it'll become an expensive luxury...

Not many people want to be in something that small these days. Not with how large every other car has become. These will have a niche in many places, but I doubt the American public will go crazy for them.

Production STARTS Q4 2026, so even if the timeline doesn't slip, mass production won't be until mid 2027 at the earliest...

Who would buy this? It is so weak for a truck. Maybe it will compete with the Nissan Leaf and Aptera I guess.

Yeah and by then there will be used Cybertrucks for 50k and not to mention cheaper Lightning and Silverado EVs. I just don't see this as appealing to many buyers.

All of this interesting stuff will fail. The market only wants white bulbous breeder mobiles or F150 clones with wildly huge front grills and 4x4 decals.

I think it’ll flop. Problem with super low-cost new cars is they’re never going to be a better financial value than a good 3-5 year old used car. An Edge, Murano, HR-V, etc. will have more features than a Blank Slate for the same price. If someone really wanted to go electric, get a ‘22 or ‘23 Model 3; those are sometimes going for low $20k without tax credits.

Well I put my $50 down. It would fit a niche for me for very little. If I could export one I would do it in a second. Subsidized gas is going away in south america. Something like this would suit me nicely there.

The price is $27500. It gets to 20k with thr tax credit. No radio, screen, speakers, 1k towing, 2 seater for almost 30k?
No one will be surprised if the current Administration kills the tax credit. And if that happens, then the Slate's base price would likely rise to something like $27,500, which would be less competitive. The obvious comparison is with a new 2025 Ford Maverick, which starts at $27,000 MSRP for the lowest trim -- and even the lowest trim is better equipped than the Slate.

But hold on. The Maverick's price is low because it's made in Mexico. And another thing that the current Administration doesn't like is American companies outsourcing their manufacturing to other countries. Not like the Slate, which will be Made in the USA.

Sure, the price of the Slate will rise if the tax credit goes away. But it's equally true that the prices of the Maverick, and many other inexpensive ICE vehicles, are set to rise if tariffs are imposed.
