Open season for the aftermarket. Sponsors, get on it!
The problem is so few were made without the hard cover that the market is not big enough to support an aftermarket run of these, which is the problem if overall CT slip to low is parts/mods/etc all disappear.

It's disappointing that Tesla isn't supporting RWD owners here. You don't expect OEM parts for your brand new vehicle to become unavailable within just weeks or months of your purchase. OK, maybe the Soft Tonneau Cover was technically an "accessory", and not a "part", but it still seems like an important accessory -- one that should have been included as a standard feature.

Agree, it is very disappointing. I liked the basic nature of the RWD model, thus could live without other features of AWD. However, having any tonneau option for a pick-up truck is a must. If they had informed that there would be no tonneau option on RWD at all, I would have went with AWD.

If I owed one of these I’d be looking for a folding solar panel the right size and a way to mount it

Which implies that the absence of OEM or aftermarket tonneau options could make it difficult for Tesla to sell the remaining RWDs in inventory.
I think most RWD were shipped to Space X and X, since fleet / commercial use trucks have no need for tonneau covers or even the under bed storage.

Original plan was using the OEM soft cover then add flexible panels on top of it.

I was pondering on designing a standalone solar tonneau. Without a base it makes it less secure to hold down at highway speeds. Or it would have to be a semi-permanent approach, therefore make it more time consuming to remove.

Another option would be buy the caps.

Possibly, but in any case Tesla currently still has RWDs available in inventory for retail sale, like this one in Austin.

The order page includes a list of accessories that you can add to your RWD purchase -- but the soft tonneau cover isn't one of them.

Correct, there are still inventory. They might be still building them, since the couple that won a RWD was a MY2026 VIN.

Pick-up truck tonneau are normally aftermarket. Majority truck owners probably don't have one. However, the Cybertruck is a specialty lifestyle truck, so is difficult sell without one, especially without any OEM nor aftermarket support.

Don't have much data on RWD VINs. There is one posted here with a build date of June 17, 2025 and a 77xxx number. It's a 2025 model year (with "S" in VIN digit 10). So apparently early RWD production was 2025 and later RWD production was 2026 (with "T" in VIN digit 10).

Interesting, my RWD is 80k 08/25 build and 2025 'S' VIN.

CT in 2026?

An extremely limited market to R&D a soft tonneau cover. It makes no business sense. I'll bet less than 500 RWD CT''s were ever built.

Agree but a trifold solar panel cover that uses the back three mounting points and can be folded to uncover the entire tonneau would sell. A lot.
Who cares is there is a factory tonneau underneath or not. Despite what our sponsor friends would have you believe not everyone wants to put a cap on our trucks.
