Trailer towing Range

Can you factor in sub-freezing temperatures into this equation? Pulling an ice house (4000-6000 lbs) in 15 degree weather. Does that cut range down in another half?

No physics here but I’ll tell you something I feel is grossly overlooked - it’s not about weight you are towing, it’s mainly the aero of the trailer. I see tests on YouTube towing a flat bed with 8,000 of bricks- only relevance is if you have to tow a flatbed full of bricks. Case point, I just upgraded from a 22ft to a 28ft trailer. It’s a foot higher and only 450lbs heavier since I went from crappy steel to aluminum. It’s also got a longer frame at front so front of trailer is a solid half foot further back from tail gate.

sounds pretty similar right? 6ft longer, 1 ft taller, 400lbs heavier, half a foot back - same shit? Wrong. I used to barely notice my old trailer, this thing is like towing a-giant brick and the sway plus drag is also noticeable in the cab.

My gas mileage used to regularly be in 13mpg range, now I’m 10.5 ish. Also the speed (which is aero I know) is massive. Doing 55mph I get back to 13-14mpg. Going 70mph I’m down under 10. Not scientific I know but having felt it it’s massively different. I’ll bet an aerodynamic trailer plus slow speed can make 50 miles of range difference on same weight when pulling with an ev quite easily.

Well NOW that he released the range numbers 340 - so w a trailer and bed loaded w tools would be down to what
150 - FAR CRY from 500 - not sure i am going to go thru- loved it b4
B4 he promised the world and left us w 1/2 of what he said he would have -
500 range

and so on —- don’t wanna go over the list again- too disappointing

Yeah forgot about low temps - so pulling a trailer in winter might get 100 miles - Elon - where’s the 500 mile Range?????
I now feel tht i wasted a lot of time thinking of how i was going to enjoy this trck- when it seems its just going to be an expensive charging station attendant

unless you wanna spend 16k for what? 35 extra towing miles? They have got to be the most expensive miles per $ in the history of towing.

just looks like they’ve built a car to car persons needs - what a shame, it misses the target on all the key things a truck does and needs to be. It’s more a luxury suv.

Some follower said they knocked it out of the park -??? how ? wrong on range wrong on tailgate ramp - wrong on mid widow opening- haven’t seen anything about a compressor- so assuming that was bullshit also -
only BIG plus is steer by wire - But did it really need 4 wheel steering- Hell NO would rather have the RANGE / ramp midgate opening & solar rear cover
and that under bed storage- put the rest of the battery in there to get close to 500
340 pulling a trailer is a 45 min coffee break every 1.5 hrs -

this is a miss man - first time for Tesla I think. Luxury suv is end product. I see why it’s taken so long now - they just couldn’t engineer what they imaged. I’m sure they’ll get it right eventually although not sure they are going to build a useful truck in the next 4-5 years based on this evidence.

yeah ram charger might be interesting - 145 miles of range and then generator for towing. Payload might be crap though. I think I’ll just move on to a certified 3/4 ton and wait 3-4 more years for hopefully improvements with ev trucks.
