Just installed 38.6 and went out to dinner this evening.

While parked at my usual parking spot in front of the restaurant (for reference,) I could tell the front light bar was a little bit dimmer than before.

Kind of subtle though. I probably wouldn’t notice the difference if I didn’t pay attention to it.

Tesla does not disclose production or sales numbers for Cybertrucks specifically. So the most interesting thing about the recall is that it reveals the total number of Cybertrucks that have been produced since the official introduction in late 2023:
That 63,619 number would include CTs that have been produced but not yet sold, like those in inventory at Tesla stores or in transit.

That number is basically consistent with independent estimates, as per my post last week, which was based on data through September 30:
And why should we care about a specific number?

The only number I really care about is how many *I* own...

If you want to get into 'recall' numbers, then watch out... Because that Ram 2500 has 13 PAGES of recalls (depending on year of course) with fun things like "Talegate may open unexpectedly" and "Steering knuckle may fail while driving" or "Vehicle may rollaway" and then there's the list of ones that could CAUSE FIRES... They have FOUR recalls for various things that could cause fires on the ONE model (2013 RAM 2500) out of 16 different ones... NONE of which say they could cause a fire though... MOST of them are "Software Update Repairs Recall"...

Weird that most of the recalls for FIRES are for GAS cars and NOT EVs... hmmm... Guess the press is not very well informed...

The point was knowing how many Cybertrucks have been built, not that they were subject to a recall.

Right. Some people are curious about how common or uncommon Cybertrucks might be. But Tesla adds an element of mystery to this seemingly simple question, by declining to release exact sales figures. So when a clue is revealed -- which happened as a result of the recall -- some people are interested.

If Tesla just announced quarterly sales numbers, like other manufacturers, no one would have cared about the number in the recall notice.
