i didn’t have alot of confidence with the Pirellis at first but it proved me wrong everytime during this trip.
In many conditions an all-season radial will have *more* traction than most All-Terrain tires. Especially in many of the conditions you encountered. The biggest benefit of AT tires in general is they have more toughness built into them to reduce the frequency of flat tires.

They do have more and bigger tread voids which can help them clear mud easier and get more bite in many soft surfaces.

Was wondering what mode we're you in when going down the snowy hill? did you turn regen braking off? I have a long, pretty steep, dirt driveway with a cliff on one side. When it snows I white knuckle it down but have only done so twice. One time I started to slide while parked on the side putting chains on, that was scary.

Dealing with such a heavy truck and steep slippery slopes will never not scare the hell out of me
i was in offroad mode (snow) and had trail assist on. On steep downhills I just let the trail assist run. Didn’t turn off regen. Driving downhill in the snow is very scary that’s why i didn’t push through to the top eventhough my tires were not slipping going up. And that was my first time in that area so I am not familiar with the terrain. Snow covered everything.

Take it off-roading with the Pirelli tires at your own risk. Don't get me wrong, I loved you videos. I just had a different experience with the Pirelli AS tires. I have the front tires blow while going down a dirt road. I was barely able to get to a main road to have my CT towed.

On the bright side, I had a really good experience at the Rifle, CO Walmart. They stayed late to patch both tires.

That was unfortunate… did you hit something sharp? how many miles did you have when the tire blew out? Mine was around 2k miles before I went so still pretty new.

What was your tire air pressure when that happened?

the Pirellis are really soft. I’ve seen small chunking even before I took it out off road. That’s why I was surprised to see my tires held up after 3 straight days of moderate off roading and the 800 miles in highway driving during that trip. Maybe I just got lucky I didn’t hit something that would blow out my tires.

The dirt road we took did not look any more rough than any other dirt road, but there was likely some sharp rocks on it given the punctures on the tire.
My tires were not new. They had about 10,000 miles on them at the time.

The tires were at normal pressure, as I had just come off of a highway. You shouldn't have to deflate them for a dirt road.

It very likely that I hit some sharp rocks on the dirt road, but to have both front tire punctured shows just how soft these Pirelli's are. I recently upgraded to Bridgestone Dueler AT's, and so far it is a huge improvement.

I contemplated on replacing the Pirellis prior to our trip because of how soft they are but I dont like the idea of me keeping this tires and selling it on fb market and just getting low balled for it. Might as well use them. Hopefully, I’ll have better luck with these tires. I checked my tires after the trip and looks ok.

Similar situation with me, but was all my fault. We have been overlanding in many BLM lands, national forests, etc. around the country - about 20K miles worth - until we hit Broken Bow, OK a couple of months ago.

The roads leading to where we wanted to camp were very rocky, with many sharp ones. Got stuck in traffic on the way there and were risking arriving after sunset (didn't want to setup in the dark). Bottom line, I was going too fast for the road and didn't air down at all - so I ended up with a small gash under a lug. Crawled to a flat spot, set it to extract mode, rolled the puncture to the top, and plugged it (took three to get it to hold air). Held for the weekend with one air-up and got me home a few hundred miles later.

I knew this was a possibility - so I have a plug kit / sidewall patch kit, and a tankless 110v compressor in the smugglers bin.

Those are the first things I bought before I drove the truck off road.
Whenever I would take the truck to dirt roads and I know that I’m gonna be driving for miles, I air down for driving comfort and it lessens the probability of a puncture. I always bring my 4 gal air compressor. Airs a tire up in 2 mins from 30 to 50 psi. And I always have a spare.

Keep the review / comments coming. Looks like a compelling AT option.

i’m leaning towards the Mickey Thompson Baja Boss. All reviews are good and can handle snow as well. Tread wear is very good too. A little bit pricey. But it’s in the same price range of the the Wildpeaks and KO3s which are highly regarded AT tires. These tires are a bit louder than on road ATs.
If you want better on road manners less aggressive tires, the Dueler and Michellin LTX Platinums are the ones getting high remarks.

I’m either getting BFG KO3 (enjoy on my ICE truck and use less fuel than previous AT tires) or Bridgestone Dueler AT Ascent. But only when my OEM Pirellis wear out. Definitely want an AT tire for mild off-roading and snow grip

How's the KO3 in the snow and heavy rain?

Good in snow. Definitely not a snow tire, but my experience with a 2004 ICE truck is positive. Thanksgiving weekend i70 thru central Colorado was closed 3-4 hours due to two 30+ vehicle pile-ups. I drove over Vail pass 10,662 and Ike tunnel 11,100 elevation a few hours after interstate reopened. Very slick conditions. Traction/grip was suitable for 40-45 mph when most traffic was 30 mph. Classic "couple of inches" of icy, compacted snow-- roads were well above freezing before the snow fell.

How's the tread wear? How many miles did you get from the KO3s?
