Hi All,

I currently own a 2023 Ford Lightning Long Range. I had ordered the Cybertruck the night it was announced, but I couldn't wait for its release and went with the Ford. I was also disappointed the range of the Cybertruck is not near the 500 mile range we were hoping for.

Anyway, 3 years and 95,000 miles later I am looking at selling my lightning and buying a Cybertruck. My question is; is the 325 mile range accurate? For example I know if I drive the lightning under 70mph, no jack rabbit starts, and it is at least 55 degrees out I can get 320 mile range. Over 70 it is 250-260.

What is you real world experience? Thanks
Nope, not realistic. Between 200 and 150 real daily drive.

Okay, here's how it works...

If you drove your CT in a REASONABLE manner (chill mode) AND have it set to LOW or MEDIUM height AND you're not carrying any load other than yourself AND your driving is UNDER 70 on the highways AND 60% or more of your driving is "in town" and 40% or less "highway" driving, then yeah, you can get that kind of range, maybe better even...

EVs are almost the OPPOSITE of gas vehicles... Gas trucks get LOUSY mileage around town with all the stops and starts, but GOOD on the highway at around 60-75 mph usually... That's the OPPOSITE of your EV/CT...

If you are buying one because you will be constantly driving on the highways, at speed, then you will need to slow down, make sure your tires are inflated to the top recommended PSI (50 for the All Terrains) and you will be doing better...

BUT... a huge butt here... DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT!! Unless you are constantly going someplace that is 300+ miles away and there are NO chargers between start and end (and that includes ALL brands of chargers, not just Tesla owned ones), then you have nothing to worry about...

That's just 'range anxiety'... You get that when you concentrate on the MILES instead of the PERCENT of battery...

In GAS vehicles, the 'gauge' usually shows Empty/ 1/4 / 1/2 /Full...NOT miles... Yet somehow we all still drove without anxiety even though we didn't usually know how many miles we got to a tank and then did the math if it was 1/4 or 1/3rd... We just drove...

You should just set it to PERCENT and not worry about it unless you (somehow) get below 10% and there's no "E" anywhere to get more... Remember those signs that said "Last Chance Gas for 60 miles"? I do... But I don't have to worry about it... My NAV system tells me where to stop to charge up... And if, for some reason there wasn't a (Tesla) charger within 300 miles (unlikely), there's a good possibility there's one by EVGo, Chargepoint, Blink, Electrify America (EA), EV Connect or some other brand... And if there's not, then look for CAMPGROUNDS that have a 240 outlet and arrange to charge up there for a few hours (much slower than superchargers).

But, I would just set it to percent and not worry... I have never gone below 9% (one time!) and even then it wasn't a big deal because it was 9% when I arrived at home and plugged in for the night!

TLDR: 49% to go 118.1 miles with ~108 miles at 75 mph on BFGoodrich KO3, no aero covers.

Some stats as promised, if there is anything not listed you want to know and I have it, I’m happy to add it.

Total distance of both legs was 118.1 miles. First 4.8 miles and last 4.9 miles of each leg respectively was side roads with speeds between 25 - 55 mph and roughly three stop each way.

All interstate speeds had cruse set to 75 with little traffic forcing slower speeds and never over 75 mph. No aggressive accelerations. One of the most difficult drives of my life :)

Drive mode was set to comfort for both legs.

Climate was set to auto @ 66°F

Outside temp was between 61°F and 68°F for the entire distance

Estimated 250 lbs of gear that lives in the truck full time plus a single human @ 230 lbs

BFGoodrich KO3 with 5,893 miles and tread depth between 18/32nd and 17/32nd at the start of the trips

No aero covers, only lug nut caps and center cap.

Little to no wind

Charged from 51% to 91% on Wall Connector @ ~11.8 kW for four hours and eighteen minutes directly prior to drive, battery should have been warm.

Lifetime trip stats prior to trips:
Distance Total Energy Avg. Energy
30,441 13,636 kWh 448.0 Wh/mi
DistanceTotal EnergyAvg. Energy
30,44113,636448.0 Wh/mi

Lifetime trip stats after trips:
Distance Total Energy Avg. Energy
30,555 13,692 kWh 448.1 Wh/mi
DistanceTotal EnergyAvg. Energy
30,55513,692448.1 Wh/mi

First leg starting SoC 91% with ending SoC 68%
First leg of the trip “Current Drive” data:
59.0 mi
26.7 kWh
1:01 hr (time is different due to an ATM stop)
452.2 Wh/mi

Parked for 19 minutes between trips.

Second leg starting SoC 67% with ending SoC 42%
Second leg of the trip “Current Drive” data:
59.1 mi
28.7 kWh
55 min (time is different due to an ATM stop)
548.1 Wh/mi

“Since Charge” data:
118.1 mi
55.4 kWh
468.6 Wh/mi

Elevation graph for second leg (first leg elevation graph was jacked up but it’s s just the inverse)
