Wow really? I feel like there is a not so gradual trend towards transitioning to a police state happening around us. It’s really freaking me out.
I mean, no matter what your political outlook or personal views are on enforcement priorities, I can’t imagine anyone being ok ten years ago with people jumping out of unmarked vehicles and making arrests out of uniform wearing hoodies, not presenting ID’s and warrants and that sort of thing.
Clearly it’s also emboldening our mainstream police. When the lines at the extreme get scooted over, everything else shuffles after it to fill the space that is left.
I work with police officers every day. They are in many ways my colleagues and also my friends. Things clearly “feel” different for them now. They readily admit to it. The rules are just not as hard and fast. They can “get away” with more. Believe it or not, it actually worries me when they say things like it’s “easier” for them to do their jobs even though I’m clearly on their side.
Obviously, this erosion is less worrisome now if it happens to agree with your views on immigration or drug enforcement or whatever else but what happens when the political tide changes to something we don’t agree with as much and the enforcement standards remain at the new status quo?
