It sucks to see so many problems, but that trail really is gnarly. Haven’t been there myself, but it seems like picking the proper line is absolutely key.
I passed 5 other trucks broken down, the trail is a brutal vehicle destroyer

Why not just go to Baja and do what CT’s testing team did?
I'm glad they took their Cybertruck to the Rubicon and beat it up, but it's not something I would spend $25K on. I think they just wanted a lot of clicks. I like what they did (as long as they are thrashing their own Cybertruck), I just found the video production to be full of douchebaggery comments and attitudes.

I absolutely love the effort Roger. I love the adventure and accomplishment. I’d love to see a video more heavy on the actual journey and completely devoid of the “artistic choices” and attitudes expressed by whomever narrated. I ended up just scrubbing through that dude as quickly as possible.

No big deal. Easy fix:

-add custom portal hubs/spindle
-40” tires
-custom 7/8” heim tie rods (both ends) with custom inner steering clevis at the steering rack
-uniball control arms
-Porsche 934 CV axles
-remove air suspension for 3” coil overs
-sway bar disconnect

I think that about sums it up. Basically, standard off road mods if you’re serious about it.

Why did Rivian send 5 trucks, helicopters and teams f support crew and vehicles... to say they did it. We did it on a shoestring budget to prove the Cybertruck cando the trail, its just a major spend!
While I don't know what Rivian was up to, one might imagine they were being prepared for all eventualities, including extraction. Probably makes sense if you're doing it as a car manufacturer. What's unclear is whether they needed said helicopter and all the available support. According to the article, nothing major broke, but sadly no videos or material have been posted, for whatever reason.

You might dismiss that, but you too had what appeared to be significant support, including of course the support vehicle which seemed to be constantly dragging the Cybertruck along, but all the kind-hearted people who helped you along the way with parts, generators etc (or if not kind-hearted, perhaps people that just wanted you off the trail). This included Tesla engineers, which came to the rescue after you had given up on the trail (at least that is how it's portrayed in the video). Major parts of the Cybertruck broke along the way and I think a lot of people would not give it a passing grade. I compare that in my mind to a few videos I saw after watching yours, with people in relatively standard looking Land Rover Defenders, passing through seemingly without any drama. A much smaller footprint, tighter shape, lower weight and better forward visibility all help, perhaps with more suitable axle articulation from a solid axle (that would be an interesting debate), possibly better steering feedback. Even the Jeep Liberty someone posted seemed to do better, though it too was half dragged through in parts.

I salute the effort, and the tenacity. I absolutely do, no sarcasm at all. I do think a lot of the criticism the Cybertruck gets is completely misguided (and stems from a dislike of Musk, which I can understand). But I am still put off by any suggestion that this somehow shows the Cybertruck as an amazing off-road vehicle. It's OK, I'm sure. Better than a regular car, but it does have clear weaknesses for terrain like the Rubicon. All of this would be easier to swallow if the message was more like "OK, it was a bit of a mess, but now we have analysed the list of things Tesla could improve to make it better, or what could be the ultimate Tesla off-road vehicle". Even your co-driver seemed to want to stop you after the suggestion the Cybertruck was amazing here.

🖕you and I are never going to get along after I tried to give you free inner tie rod in case you broke down and you accused me of trying to buy you:ROFLMAO:

exactly, nothing time and money can't fix! Our sway bar disconnected itself though after the gatekeeper

Correct, the Cybertruck is NOT a Rubicon rig, it is a great trail rig though, but not for the Rubicon or extreme trails.

We set out to be the first EV Truck & Cybertruck to cross the Rubicon from Loom Lake to Tahoma, we achieved that, it just took a lot to do it. We did it by ourselves, with a little help from some friends.

Yes, Jeep Wrangler and Defender are better vehicles for this task after seeing Williams Jeep and remembering my last New Defenders abilities. Both are better trail rigs.

I am also a Jeep guy, and have/had Rubicon Wranglers (currently have a JLRU 392.)

Vehicles were damaged or broken down at Rubicon often, it was one tough trail.

Kudos to a private Cybertruck, without heavy modifications, made it this far on the Rubicon trail.

Nicely put...Great points.

I take the Beast off road in AZ Tonto National Forest all the time and it does GREAT. I've had lots of 4x4 trucks -GMC and F250 EXT Escalade The Beast is so fun climbing up the paths - Other people out 4x4'ing want to talk and take pictures. We get comments like "...so cool.. We could hear only your tires gripping ... so quiet .... " It is fun to drive ..or ..be driven. It does all the trails just fine. Puts a smile on my face every time ..

Where this at? Let’s go wheeling some time! I always get stopped to chat by jeeps on 4 peaks road..

Cheers, credit for going through with the whole ordeal. Would be great to see even longer videos (even the boring bits where it did well, as someone mentioned here).

Well, two weeks later and we finally got the video done… Now it all seems just like a dream, but it was an incredible journey with all the struggles, ups and downs, but I can say I checked it off the bucket list and we were the first Cybertruck across the Rubicon and drove it the entire way.
Glad you made it. Would have been much better with some better spotting on the obstacles.

Two easy points, UP makes equipment for this and a Honda gas generator can trickle charge the truck when you stop.
