Fender bender…

Wondering if this is worth an insurance claim…. Any idea the cost of a front bumper and camera?

[rbalkun]

The plastic parts are surprisingly cheap, but there are a lot of components to the front camera system, there’s a camera, a camera cover, a heater unit for it, a nozzle to clean it, and you really don’t know what’s damaged until you take stuff apart. You also don’t know if you damaged any of the energy absorbing components, not sure how big the hit was. The good thing is it’s not too hard to take the bumper fascia off should take under 30 minutes to get a good idea. If you liked legos when your a kid the Tesla service manual is really good at step by step directions how to do everything yourself and you can even order the parts over the counter from a service center if you are like me and really impatient. Look up the part numbers in the part manual and create a service ticket looking for over the counter prices on the parts.

Front bumper is $1500 plus install. Come out to about $1900

Should take less than 30 minutes if it’s just the fascia and camera…20 minutes according to the service manual.

$400 for a 20 minute install?

eBay has front and rear used bumpers from ones replaced with modified ones. You would need to check on the camera. An independent shop can probably install for less. All depending on whether there is other damage.

Unless when that person had the work done they found out more was damaged. The service manual states how long every task should take therefore how much is billed.

A heat gun on the bumper might restore the darker plastic color.

I’d like a bumper robust enough that I could push a stuck vehicle with without damaging the truck. The stock bumper seems too flimsy to me.

Aren’t there tow hooks on the truck? Why do you need to push another vehicle?

[btcrealm]

Camera is probably screwed and will need to be replaced. You could use the heat gun option @RoboTaxi said and get the plastic back in the right shape then do something like this to wrap it.
No I'm not specifically recommending this brand, there are a couple. It just came up today and was easy to grab.

Blocked on the railway tracks when a Brightline train is coming.

My CT was in an accident that needed the front panels and bumper replaced including the camera. See attached part of the estimate from the TESLA collision center. Looks like $1200 installed for the full front bumper assembly.

Luckily not my fault so the other guys insurance covered.

Either:

1. Don’t enter the tracks until the way is clear, or
2. Thank the Lord for your torque and happily replace the bumper, or…
3. “I don’t want scratches, I’m betting he’ll stop”

Absolutely. I don't even put my vehicle in the middle of an intersection due to traffic jams, let alone in the middle of a train track, where it would be in the way of oncoming traffic. I always wait for the other side to clear enough before I cross the intersection.
