Well, they were supposed to have a $39k MSRP. And you can buy full size work trucks for under $40k brand new. So $35k sounds right for a 2023 CT in 2027. I sold a $132k P85D for $29k after five years and 150k miles.
Time will tell. I’ll tell you this much, I’m saving change till 2027 in case it’s true.
how many of you all own a 2023 Cybertruck btw?

‘23? There’s no such animal. You mean a 2024 that they took delivery of in 2023?

What he said all those years ago at autonomy day was that it would be an appreciating asset and specifically, I wouldn’t want to sell my Tesla for less than $300,000 because it would effectively be a business on wheels and the market would have to value it as such.

I agree with everything you said regarding unsupervised and what will happen. But what Elon predicted has obviously not come through yet and I’m pretty sure now never will.

The combination of radical abundance and a future without work combined means that not only will no one be able to afford to pay $300,000 for my Tesla they’re not going to need or want to. If I’m able to put my Beast into the fleet and pick up a few extra bucks here and there I think that’s the best case scenario (which I would never do).

As an unrelated matter, I was just reading an article before coming here about Waymo’s shutting down in some city because of a power outage and it occurred to me what’s that going to look like when we have an extended power outage (weeks due to sabotage or some natural disaster) and a significant number of the population is relying on electric Robotaxis for transportation?
You cannot pump gas in a power outage either. I’ve purchased Jerry can black market fuel several times in parts of the world (China’s Gobi desert, Rwanda, and Arequipa, Peru), where the power had been out for at least several days, standing in a perfectly good, but dark gas station.

Thats what I mean, there is all kinds of stretching the truth that has to happen to even come close to Doug’s numbers being realistic.

I don’t know man. It’s already the biggest depreciation I’ve ever suffered and that’s measured by percentage or dollar amount. Here’s what Chat (actually this one is Grok) thinks about his prediction:

Did they even get any more delivered in 2023 after the delivery event but before the new year? I thought it was just those 10 to 12 or whatever it was.

I’m pretty sure the table that admin created has those numbers. If memory serves more than a few of our friends here got their trucks in November/December of ‘23.

Ah okay cool. Even the earliest ones were sold as year model 2024, right?

Well…maybe it’s me that’s being unrealistic but my gut feel is no. Judging by the “I wish I could” reactions I get from people who look at the truck and the adjustments to Tesla’s planned production volume, I don't believe he’s right.
To add another crease to this, can you think of another example in history where basically the IPO price of a car was fucked with by the manufacturer the way the $20k foundation tax did? I can’t but I’m also not that knowledgeable on the subject. The supply and demand curve was deliberately smudged by Tesla for whatever reason and I think the losses you and I are eating are largely a downstream manifestation of this more so than a credible predictive trend to assess depreciation.

#1. Make sure you look at my update I included responses from other chat bots and ChatGPT largely agrees with you.

BEYOND THAT:

I think that what Elon did is gave a masters class on why you never ever ever shit on your core customers unless you are dead certain that there is a ready willing and able cadre of people to replace them (guess what— there wasn’t)!

And absolutely I think there’s truth to you assertion that the rollout of the CT in particular the FS series shenanigans with putting celebrities ahead of those of us who were in line 1st and the shady expansion of the “limited” quantity of the FS trucks as an open cash grab not only was a bad look and bad business decision but left a bitter taste that still sits in my mouth today.

Is there a worse example in modern times? Yeah I think so the “Founder’s Edition” of the New Roadster was already an absurd premium even if it hadn’t developed into eight-year-old vaporware at this point.

Taking a 10 year interest free $50k loan from the few handful of people who are able and willing to spend $300,000 on your brand and giving them nothing in return is unspeakably stupid.

As I’ve said before both UP and Tesla have taught me lessons this year that I will never forget.

1. [Tesla] If it doesn’t do everything that I want to do on the day of purchase, NO SALE! No future firmware updates, range extenders or anything else will ever be considered again. Never did it before don’t know why I fell for it this time, but this judgement lapse is ONE and DONE!

2. [UP] I don’t pre-order car parts/accessories. I’ll buy it when and if you have it ready to sell. Not before. Not ever again.

Fool me once shame on me. Fool me twice …

That’s right. Even though Tesla doesn’t really do model years the VIN codes are only ‘24, ‘25 and I’m seeing on Reddit that some people are now getting ‘26 VIN codes and among other things they’ve updated the accelerator and it doesn’t have the rivet anymore, but also doesn’t have any metal it’s all black plastic/rubber.

That was my point but I’ll go with any three-year old CT in 2027 will likely be in the $40k range. Current trade value for a ‘24 AWD is roughly $65 which feels a bit rich considering I paid under $73 after tax credit in March.

That’s an interesting move. Then again the NFS AWD removed the SS from the center floor storage area. Wonder if future Beasts will still have the SS on the pedals? That’s always a thing in the plaids and performance models.
