I parked my truck at my local airport and it has limited ev charging stalls. Nothing crazy just a ChargePoint but it allows sentry mode to run and maintain a charge. Stalls are first come first serve and this is daily parking not hourly. I get a notification from vehicle I’m busy of course on vacation.

I review my Tesla app to see the recent saved footage and someone had the audacity to unplug my truck and plug hers in. I was livid but mind you I’m gone for almost 2 weeks so maybe she’s coming back in a day or two and will put it back.

Nope never happened she did come back and never attempted to plug back in. Now my truck is at 40 percent and I’m livid.

ok rant over, I guess I need to buy a locking adapter to prevent a ChargePoint cable print pulled out.

absolutely no respect!!!!! ?

It is sad and yes something like the link from jaredhobbs. I keep a spare on both rides as well just in case. Some of the locks are just loose enough that someone can push the button down to stop it from charger but they can’t remove it. They would have to stand there long enough for the charging station to reset. If they just push the button but figure out they can remove it when they let go most charging stations still start charging again because it never lost communication with the vehicle.

To be honest I've never understood airport EV etiquette - we also have Chargepoint at our local airport (6 stalls) but I don't get the business model or the reasonable expectation of expected usage if someone is going to be plugged in for more than 24 hours. I emailed my local airport authority and oddly, their response was "no one has really asked that question / we just ask that people don't stay plugged in for too long" (without any specifics re: what "too long" even means". While I personally wouldn't have unplugged your vehicle, I'm not sure I would have taken up a spot for that long either. Not sure if different airports have published policies - so far I haven't found any (and I've looked).

Recently I was going to be gone on a 3 day business trip and wanted to park / charge (with these Chargepoints it seems to take about that long to recharge anyway - lol) but didn't know if I'd get towed or have someone leave a nasty note for hogging a space. In the end I didn't use it...

For next time:

*call to airport security* - "Hey guys, I have video footage of a woman tampering with EV chargers. Can you please go check out, it's located at [parking space#].

Give them full descriptions of the person, what they were wearing, what car they have. Ask if they have an email address you can send the video to, and offer to pay someone $20 to plug your truck back in.

Tampering with someone's vehicle is illegal. And if you are paying for a charging session, then it becomes theft too. If the airport security can't be bothered, call the police and put out an arrest warrant for the person who did it. May sound overboard, but I'm sick and tired of people thinking they can get away with f****** with someone else's private property.

These types of people only face consequences when someone actually does something about it.

If businesses were reasonable, they would be installing Tesla branded level 2 chargers, and the problem would disappear; since they have extensive controls available to mitigate this type of problem. Plus, locking handles by default.

Every new EV charging station I see deployed in the wild, in the year 2025, that isn't Tesla... I automatically assume someone in government got a kickback. Absolutely absurd.

I dont agree with the OP occupying the "limited" parking spot for days just to trickle charge, the same "absolutely no respect!!!!! ?" can as easily apply to him. Should've found a parking near a receptacle and just use mobile connector to trickle charge, some long term lots have those (I used them in the past).

Now, could've the woman re-plug? I dont think she could unless the charging cable had the tesla charging handle button of which would open Tesla charging port. I know the OP said that she didnt even try, and that's wrong too. She also didnt know if the OP was parked for days or was returning soon. Yeah, shitty situation all around.

How do they lock? Is there a retaining clip that locks it? I only see the rings in the Amazon page.
it slips over the latch that lifts up when you press the button on the charger handle so the latch can't lift

I get what a lot of you are saying and the charging is 100 percent complimentary. And let’s be honest I’m technically paying for it at $12 percent complimentary day parking fee.

@espresso-drumbeatfirst off love the name I’m an espresso junkie, but here’s my airport policy.

so my vehicle should have never been touched. The stalls give piece of mind and allow sentry mode to remain active. So I understand your frustration as long as mine. But I never went against any policies or rules.

@REM maybe that’s a bit extreme arrest warrant I mean yeah lI would have called security but I saw the video too late. While I would have loved her to plug it back in she might have broke something as the door was also halfway shut on the charging adapter from Tesla. At lease those lock and can’t be stolen.

but in future I will be buying one of these ring looking locks I just want an aluminum one so I know it’s very ridged. I’m upset she feel like she could go to my vehicle and unplug and clearly not a Tesla owner. But I felt targeted, maybe I over reacted but it’s ok this won’t happen again. And hopefully this post will get others to invest in those locking rings to be proactive.

Let me get this straight. This is a daily parking lot but you are OK with leaving your vehicle plugged in for 2 weeks? Sorry, but the disrespect sounds like yours as well.

That said, she shouldn't have unplugged you. She had no way of knowing you were going to be gone for several days.

Do you pay for charging at this lot? If so, she could not have reactivated your payment. If it is included in the parking fee, then she should have at least plugged you back in.

Yes it’s daily lot for those on extended stays and the airports policy is I can keep it plugged in for the remainder of my trip. Whether it’s 1 day or 2 weeks honestly shouldn’t matter. If you’re parking your car for 2 days do you really need a charger ? No but it’s there. I like having peace of mind knowing sentry is running my car is staying cool with cabin overheat protection.
