I really wish they would have used the under bed box space for a spare. I like the box down there but I’d rather have the tire under there and just have a small tool box in the bed. Even if they left it empty, I would have bought the spare after the fact, just need the tire size space under there
Yup, I have accessed my under-bed storage about once every 10k miles, and could have easily done without. This is one of about 12 things they should have brought in some "truck guys" to help with, not just space nerrrrrrrrrds.

The cabin fridge is cool but being able to buy meat or fish and go about the rest of my day in Arizona without stopping at home is pretty awesome.
The popsicles are a hit with the kids too.

Idk why they haven’t offered an l-track mounted running board set so long items can set above the spare tire or cargo bins yet
What do you mean by running board?

In this case, I meant like how some trucks have little slots to lay 2x4 or 2x6s width wise across the bed so you can lay plywood flat but above the wheel wells. They could make something like that for the l-track.

OP, please don’t take my speculation about a shelf solution as any diminishment of your absolutely genius solution. I’m just looking for a practical way for me to make use of the awesome idea of slightly raising the wheel as much as possible off the floor without interfering with the tonneau.

If I understand you correctly that sounds very doable. I’ve wanted something of that nature for the l-track to carry fishing rods but lengthwise. Currently I hang them on the l-track on Velcro loops meant for rolling up extension cords.

My storage holds my mobile connector, CCS adapter, tire inflator, WD hitch wrench, drill for trailer stabilizers... etc
All the sorta dirty stuff. Frunk gets the clean things

For those interested, there is unlimited potential to build off the L-Track rails using bolt adapters like this:

I was so done with this: Every time I needed the full 6 ft bed (skis, lumber, anything long), I had to unclip the full size spare from the bed floor, wrestle the 35” tire out, find somewhere to store it, then clip it back in later. Total pain.

Fixed it permanently in 15 minutes for ~$63.

Parts:

1. L-Track Double Stud Tie-Down Fittings with O-Ring (creates the four anchor points): https://a.co/d/8q9cRXi

2. 4-pack heavy-duty 20 ft ratchet straps: https://a.co/d/aA2qUNu

Install (15 min):
• Slide the double-stud fittings into the factory L-Track at the four corners
• Drop the spare onto 2 lower straps
• Hook the four ratchet straps to the O-rings and ratchet tight
• Spare is now suspended just below the closed tonneau, completely off the floor

Result:
• Full 6 ft bed length is 100% usable
• ~12” of clear height from floor to tonneau across the entire bed
• Vault closes perfectly (sail pillars up, no gap, no interference)
• No drilling, fully reversible, rock-solid

Pics show the spare hanging neatly under the closed cover and the bed totally clear.

Best $63 I’ve spent on the truck. Never unclipping that spare again.

Who else wants their full bed back? 🚀📐

So what’s that spare bag? Is that the cover that comes with the spare when you buy it from Tesla with the tools?

Oh, nice!
Those plus brackets plus a thin planks/ plywood sheet would make a great tire shelf.

I'm glad Tesla didn't waste the space under the bed for a spare tire. The Smuggler's Bay contains my tire air compressor, air hoses, tire plugging kit, kinetic recovery rope and assorted recovery gear, soft shackles and ropes, receiver attachment point, mobile charging connector, extension cord, gloves, glass cleaner, rags, and a small collection of assorted hardware/tools and various other emergency gear.

I don't need a stinkin' spare wheel assembly weighing me down and taking up space. All the gear mentioned above weighs less than a spare wheel/tire assembly (not to mention the associated jack and lug wrench).
