i saw the drive vid. brutal. just wondering - would any other pickup truck similarly modified meet a similar fate? the comments of the vid mentioned that a rivian was able to complete it? like would a ford lightning (or even a ford f150) be able to complete it?

Only the Rivian SUV made it through, though no proof has been provided, the 5 Rivian trucks all had to be towed out after similar damage.

A stock F150, or any other full sized truck, would be totaled on this trail.

I watched the entire video, and wow. That was a heck of an adventure.

Bringing so many tie-rods with you was smart, but why not use some upgraded ones to start? Just about every rig on that trail has completely customized and battle hardened suspension parts, seems unfair to expect CT to make it with stock parts.

I have to ask though, why didn't you pack a generator capable of charging the CT? It seemed clear from the beginning there was not enough range to complete the challenge

is it just rubicon culture that when trail fixes happen the trail is blocked for all behind? how often does it typically happen? is there always another route around a blockage?

pretty cool to finally see the trail though! cool vids

We went through 4x of our Heavy-Duty ties rods, stock ones would have been many more!

Our goal was to be the First Stock EV Truck, and Cybertruck, through the Rubicon. We achieved the goal, but it was a battle for sure! Cybertruck is a GREAT offroad truck, the Rubicon is just better at breaking rigs.

Well Grok and Chat both thought we would leave with 20%+ charge, Rivian claimed 10% left over, so we thought why not? We had a large generator in the truck but it wouldn't charge the truck, we should have tested earlier, so we decided to loose the extra weight.

Hindsight is always 20/20 as they say...

We never blocked any part of the trail, we puled to the side to repair. We also passed 5 other broken rigs on the trail, they were also to the side.

I think if we blocked the trail, so me rigs would literally drive over the Cybertruck. It wouldn't surprise me, and if you block the trail you kind of get what you deserved...

My understanding is to view the Tie-rod as a fuse ... you want it to blow first before you damage other expensive parts...

If you want to abuse your vehicle, this is one of the trail for you. Don't complain about what broke, just fix it. The CT was never designed for these type of environment. I would never put my CT to this abuse unless I have to, without BS complaining about how parts designed. These guy knows better.

I wouldnt be that harsh about it. yes they did it for content, but it wasnt whistlin diesel or jerry rig everyhing type of mindless abuse content. they were pushing the ct right up to and a little past a possible use threshold. also they didnt hide the fact that it required Everest Level sherpa-ing from the Jeep and a whole team of mechanics on the content team and a small army of named and unnamed support angels that helped out.

thats why I asked the question about the f150.

id certainly never take my own ct to rubicon, but if a whole bunch of people wanted to pitch in time and money help to try to tackle it again, “because its there” in the George Mallory spirit of things, and then film it for us to watch, who are we to judge?

youre saying that when the truck arrived at the beginning of the trail, it was stock stock, as in no mods or anything at all? like as it came from austin giga?

have there been any heavily modded ct’s that have completed the trail?

That is correct, they are fuses. The OEM snap, and are hard to order from Tesla, our Heavy Duty versions bend and are available every day of the week. We suggest putting one in your spares kit if you plan to offroad for just in case.

Is there a total in dollars of what this trip cost?
$12k - Xpedition Offroad Rubicon Armor Package
$400 - Tie rods
$1200 - Rear Axle
$3500 - Front sterring rack
$1500 - moonroof
$1200 - rear rack
$1200 - all new plastic fender flares
$2500 - Winch, cables, battery, solar hood, etc
$3000 - labor
$3500 - video
+ tires & spare
=======
$35k

to do it again, add $25k Portal Axels, $20k billet steering rack, Generator

Was fun looking back, but I don't recommend the Cybertruck for this mission. I would say stick to your local trails with 6 or lower to avoid damage.

Stock, except our armor package, Tesla Offroad RT tires. We completed the trail, the first and only EV Truck!
