As I was reading your response, I immediately began to think about my life insurance policy. I googled it and found this info.

  • Beneficiary's Role:
If the beneficiary (in this case, your wife) is found to be criminally negligent in your death and the insurance company can prove it, the policy payout may be denied.
Factors that Could Affect the Payout:

OMG! The life we now live in fear of lawyers and insurance companies. not sure if he had truck cover partly closed or not but say it was, how this different than laying down taking a nap in back of SUV and/or station wagon.
[/QUOTE]
I've been screwed by insurance companies, because of a technicality. It sucks. Live your best life!

This is 100% LEGAL in Tennessee. Look it up! They teach it in drivers “ED” too. Even at highway speeds. ‘Merica.

Ed
With some restrictions on age (so not 100%), but, YEP.

This is my home state. People also still chain their dogs to trees year round and let them freeze to death in the winter. ??‍♂

Looks like it might be legal in Michigan too. I don’t practice law in Michigan; but OP might have it made in the shade! Also, considering that the tonneau cover might could be described as a bed cover additional latitude might be available in other places.

Even my state has exemptions for farms and parades.

This is dumb, illegal and nobody should do it. If the worst happened, your wife could end up in jail for criminal negligence. I don’t think it’s worth it.

To quote Billy Joel; “the good ole days weren’t always good … .“

That said, do your thing dude. Keep keeping the faith!

You say that, but your very post is acting like my mama. And literally just calling me “reckless and ignorant.”

I disagree 100% and think it’s perfectly within Tolerable risk.

you take a risk every time you walk out your front door. Every time you step into a car. Every time you get onto a highway with other drivers.

Do you wear a helmet when you drive? A flame retardant suit? I’ll make the argument that that’s reckless and ignorant as well. You’re not taking the greatest care that you could. You shouldn’t even drive a car.

this type of post always seems to divulge into minding someone else’s business

I mean if you don’t want public feedback don’t do public posts about what you’re doing, right?

Also you’re incorrect. Read what I said again, I didn’t say you were ignorant and reckless. I’m perfectly capable of saying those exact words.

“Ignorant” means you don’t know what you’re doing. You made a choice that’s not the same. It’s not the choice I would make, but I’m not you.

Reckless is relative. That’s a you thing. I bet every single one of us does something that somebody else would never try in a million years.

-————————————
More importantly, here’s exactly what I said:

“But, if what you’re suggesting is that people should be reckless and ignorant of potential consequences then, buddy, we’re just not going to agree on what freedom is or how life should be lived.”

AND it wasn’t in response to you at all or about you. It was in response to another poster saying that we can’t do anything we want because of lawyers and insurance companies and was about society at large.
-————————————

All that said, your actions don’t have to be popular or universally praised for you to be satisfied with them do they?

If I cared about public opinion and going along to get along, I would be praising you unreservedly. Proof is in the pudding.

All I want to know is was the vault open for star viewing, or mostly closed to keep you out of the wind? You married well if you got restful sleep.

lol. The tonneau was closed. It was sunny and warm outside. But it was cool in the back. People who worry about enough ventilation for their animals should not. It was breezy back there. It kept the rain out, but not the wind.

I've been curious how the bed will hold up to a rear end collision with someone sleeping inside it. I wouldn't do it, but just like I love watching Jackass, I'm glad someone else is doing this for scientific research. Worst case scenario we see how well the CT may substitute as a juicer for giant pumpkins in the fall.

Worked the night shift and was able to get a few hours rack in the back while my wife drove. Woke up refreshed and was able to finish the drive. Before all you Karen’s start chiming in about how dangerous it is, don’t do it if you think it’s too dangerous. I grew up in a time we’re used to sleep in the back and Pickup beds all the time. It was dark and cool and comfy.

Riding in a pickup bed is legal here in Arizona as well, as long as you're 16-years-old or more, or in an emergency any age is permitted.

Now THIS is a great damn post!
Glad to know there are CT owners who grew up right & aren’t pansies. Karen can kiss my a$$.
Back in the 70s, I slept with my girl and had s$x in the truck bed while another guy drove interstate 10. I’m 78 now and would do it again!
