Hmm, no mention of airbags in Tesla Semi.

Recommend cool battery with water but at same time do not submerge vehicle.
I would have thought submerge vehicle would be best way to cool the sealed battery.

Is it OK to submerge just bottom part ( a water height to cover battery) of vehicle?

Thanks for sharing. I’m tempted to print this out and keep it in the CT as emergency reference material.

Would this be weird to give to our local fire stations? Or do they already have this in their database.

Lithium is highly reactive with water.

For fun, cut open a Lithium-based AA battery and toss it in a bucket of water. Run.

They usually stay on top of these things, but I'm sure they'd appreciate someone concerned with fire safety.

I highly recommend bringing them a copy and asking anyone if they want to take a ride (or drive if you are generous). At least you will get to see if your local FD passes the vibe check.

Yes, pure lithium or even lithium metal are highly violently reactive with water.
Lithium-ion battery is reactive but to lesser degree.

Pure lithium or even lithium metal are not exactly same as what is in most EV lithium-ion batteries.

Lithium-ion cell contain small amount of lithium and in case of a fire they can be doused with water.

Lithium-metal batteries on the other hand require a Class D fire extinguisher and you should use as little water as possible and mainly to keep the surrounding area from catching fire.

Most EV lithium-ion batteries are not pure lithium or even lithium metal. Only a very small amount of material in battery is lithium-ion. Elon said in EV battery, (content NOT price wise), lithium was like salt on salad .

Many Lithium-ion batteries also contain highly flammable electrolytes material (liquid or semi-liquid organic solvent) and other materials.

Maybe the ultra high temperate burning & thermal runaway of large battery pack might be more important than how a few cells reacts with water.

If firefighters as pouring 10,000 gallons of water from large diameter high-pressure hoses in all possible directions on the battery, how is that significantly different than submergence in 2-foot of water in a tank (a lot less than 10,000 gallons)

The department I work with uses an app called Electric Vehicle Rescue

It has Emergency Response Guides for most EV's, the Cybertruck and Semi aren't on there yet but I suspect will get uploaded soon. I messaged them with the heads up on the new guides.

I believe that flowing water would be significantly better than being submerged in what would become a localized pot of boiling water.
Getting the heat away with the water flow is the goal.
