Good review of the Pirelli Scorpion XTM AT tires on road and off-road...

Read full review: https://cleantechnica.com/2025/12/0...-terrain-tire-that-doesnt-ruin-your-ev-range/

Overall
Tire companies are starting to make tires of all shapes and sizes that are optimized for electric vehicles. It’s really exciting to see these Pirelli Scorpion XTM ATs performing well and delivering meaningful improvements over aggressive all-terrain tires designed for combustion vehicles. They deliver a much quieter ride than the BF Goodrich All Terrain TA KO3s without sacrificing off-road performance.

The BFG AT TA KO3s would be my go to choice for maximum durability on trails known for eating tires. The KO3s feature a 50,000-mile warranty, which is just a tad less than the 55,000-mile warranty the Pirelli Scorpion XTM ATs come with. The Pirelli XTM ATs are perfect for drivers spending more time on the highway with occasional aggressive off-road driving. They are quieter and smoother on the highway with equivalent performance and a slightly better warranty.

The Pirelli Scorpion XTM ATs are a part of Pirelli’s special line of tires for electric vehicles called ELECT. This family of tires are optimized for the extra weight and efficiency needs of electric vehicles. In our testing, the Pirelli Scorpion XTM All-Terrain tires were 1-2% more efficient than the BF Goodrich all-terrain TA KO3s on the highway. That’s not going to change the world, but it’s a nice bump over tires not optimized for efficiency.

Fantastic, thank you! I'm not a big fan of the OEM Goodyears--they just don't have a lot of tread compared to a proper A/T tire, and they're not snow rated. For comparison, I’ve run BFG A/T KO2’s on my Toyota for nearly 20 years and they’re great on rocky trails and snow. When my OEM tires are cooked I’ll switch to a proper A/T and I’ll keep these Pirellis on my list.

They don’t come in the stock tire size though right?

I'm trying to get my paws on a set of these. I've called everyone. No ETA. Most I got was a month or two. Pirelli customer service was no help either.

This is exactly the kind of biased shit that makes these sources not even close to credible for me. How can you write an entire article comparing these to teslas all-season option (a completely different category of tire) and K03’s and not even think to describe how they compare to the actual all terrains offered on the cyberwheels ?
Oh wait, maybe it’s because pirelli is buying that guy free tires and that effectively means comparing one pirelli product to another? Utter horseshit article in my opinion. They may be great tires, that remains to be seen, but this clean technica piece is meant to do nothing other than blow pirellli.
“Good review”, brother please, that’s an embarrassing thing to say for a thinking man which I have every reason to believe you are based on what I’ve seen on this forum.

It’s reads like an add for sure. All subjective, “just rides so smooth and goes in the dirt too, yay”. no stats. I’ll consider them with more review.

"Review" highlights:

1. " Compared to the stock Pirelli Scorpion ATR all season tires, the XTM ATs were 9% less efficient driving at highway speeds"
Nice sample of one. Better than none.

2. "... The negative impact of off-road tires drops on highway as speed is reduced due to less wind drag coming from the more aggressive tread pattern."

Um, that's more like increased friction aka rolling resistance of the tread pattern, not "wind drag."

3. " In addition to a noticeably quieter ride [of the XTM ATs], the ride was also much smoother. The lugs on the KO3s are more aggressive..."
Interesting. KO3s appear to have narrower lug voids than the XTM ATs.

Great info, thanks for the post. Happy to see they will come in stock CT sizes. When it's time for a new set of tires I will swap the core Scorpion AT tires (which i love) for these.

Correct, this entire thing is press release level advertising. Disgraceful.

This is the problem with internet information. Everyone is an “expert” because it’s in writing. There are so many hungry platforms that allow manufacturers and resellers to plant reviews as though they were both objective and independent. But they are also so poorly done that the lack of competence is obvious and leads to the inability to trust any source.

I think you guys are overreacting a teeny tiny bit. I read the entire article and I have the Goodyear DuraTrac currently. Love them but if the price is right on these, I see no reason not to make the jump and gain some efficiency + less road noise. Additional testing and reviews are warranted, but I'd trust Pirelli any day over Goodyear. But to say this guy has been bought off cause he got free tires is a bit egregious. Not everything needs to be rage bait, fellas. Deep breaths go a long way.
