So I have a dilemma. I currently own a 2024 CT Foundation AWD in the mid 7k VIN range. The truck is incredible and I’ve owned it since May 2024. Fun Fact - it was actually one of the first overseas deliveries of Cybertrucks as it was on the first boat that came to Hawaii with 2 or 3 others included.
Now to my dilemma. When the Tesla Glitch story dropped about offering $100k for CTs, I went ahead and put in a feeler myself to see what they would offer. Since they had fixed the glitch I was only offered $69,800 for my truck. At first I shrugged it off. Seemed low and Tesla had a clause you couldn’t transfer FSD from a Foundation Series so I figured after tax and wrap/tint, it would be a $15-$20k move.
Flash forward I find out they recently changed the FSD clause and now I can transfer it. That in addition to the $1k referral offer ($1k me / $250 Tesla credits for wife) in addition to the $1k military and the biggest kicker the $7500 tax rebate the cost comes to around $72,750 after factoring delivery fee and order fee. I also found out in NC I only have to pay tax on trade in difference so roughly $90 for 3% of the $3k price difference. This makes it extremely attractive now. I would lose the foundation series logos and a few cheap small accessories (if they even ask for them back at all) but I would go from a AWD 2024 with 30k miles and a host of pending service appointment issues (cantrail recalls, door vibrations, rattling speakers, misalignment issues, etc) to a fresh 2025 recent VIN with 5 or less miles. I would be forced to go with grey interior (which I wanted anyways but wasn’t an option) and have to get the core wheels. The wheels isn’t a problem for me as I planned on upgrading to Goodyear Duratracs in the next month or so anyways. By the time I sell the old tires in addition to a sweet Goodyear friends and family discount, id probably be out $500. The last part is my PPF wrap and Tint which set me back around $6500. I think I can get it cheaper here in NC now anyways, since Hawaii was extremely expensive.
I was pretty much sold, however one hiccup. I put in a new Trade-in estimate last night since the old one was 3 weeks old and 1k miles less (recent roadtrip) and it came back at $65,400 now with is $4400 less. I’m also trapped in the sense that Tesla says it could be less dependent on condition during official trade in process, which also sucks because you can’t even start the process until you put $250 deposit down. Which is kind of entrapment in my opinion.
So for somewhere between $8k-$12k of extra cost I could go to a new 2025 with everything fresh and new with no issues and fresh warranty and miles. In addition I’ll get FSD transfer and 1 year of supercharging and premium connectivity not to mention a higher VIN with hopefully less of the issues I have now.
Any suggestions???
Also curious if I need to remove PPF/Tint prior to trade-in? Not sure if anyone has been lowballed after initial trade in offer too?
Very undecided and have 5 days to make a decision.
