So I have a dilemma. I currently own a 2024 CT Foundation AWD in the mid 7k VIN range. The truck is incredible and I’ve owned it since May 2024. Fun Fact - it was actually one of the first overseas deliveries of Cybertrucks as it was on the first boat that came to Hawaii with 2 or 3 others included.

Now to my dilemma. When the Tesla Glitch story dropped about offering $100k for CTs, I went ahead and put in a feeler myself to see what they would offer. Since they had fixed the glitch I was only offered $69,800 for my truck. At first I shrugged it off. Seemed low and Tesla had a clause you couldn’t transfer FSD from a Foundation Series so I figured after tax and wrap/tint, it would be a $15-$20k move.

Flash forward I find out they recently changed the FSD clause and now I can transfer it. That in addition to the $1k referral offer ($1k me / $250 Tesla credits for wife) in addition to the $1k military and the biggest kicker the $7500 tax rebate the cost comes to around $72,750 after factoring delivery fee and order fee. I also found out in NC I only have to pay tax on trade in difference so roughly $90 for 3% of the $3k price difference. This makes it extremely attractive now. I would lose the foundation series logos and a few cheap small accessories (if they even ask for them back at all) but I would go from a AWD 2024 with 30k miles and a host of pending service appointment issues (cantrail recalls, door vibrations, rattling speakers, misalignment issues, etc) to a fresh 2025 recent VIN with 5 or less miles. I would be forced to go with grey interior (which I wanted anyways but wasn’t an option) and have to get the core wheels. The wheels isn’t a problem for me as I planned on upgrading to Goodyear Duratracs in the next month or so anyways. By the time I sell the old tires in addition to a sweet Goodyear friends and family discount, id probably be out $500. The last part is my PPF wrap and Tint which set me back around $6500. I think I can get it cheaper here in NC now anyways, since Hawaii was extremely expensive.

I was pretty much sold, however one hiccup. I put in a new Trade-in estimate last night since the old one was 3 weeks old and 1k miles less (recent roadtrip) and it came back at $65,400 now with is $4400 less. I’m also trapped in the sense that Tesla says it could be less dependent on condition during official trade in process, which also sucks because you can’t even start the process until you put $250 deposit down. Which is kind of entrapment in my opinion.

So for somewhere between $8k-$12k of extra cost I could go to a new 2025 with everything fresh and new with no issues and fresh warranty and miles. In addition I’ll get FSD transfer and 1 year of supercharging and premium connectivity not to mention a higher VIN with hopefully less of the issues I have now.

Any suggestions???

Also curious if I need to remove PPF/Tint prior to trade-in? Not sure if anyone has been lowballed after initial trade in offer too?

Very undecided and have 5 days to make a decision.

Must be rough, joke.

If you can afford it and don’t feel you are taking a hit, get a new one.

Most usually wait 36-48 months to even fathom placing themselves in your dilemma. LOL

So probably just get a new one and let us know all the bells and whistles.

Take care.

For me this is not a "what would you do" but more of a "what DID you do". A couple weeks ago I traded my 4k VIN FS for a 73,000 AWD. I had 26k+ miles and accepted a trade in of $64,000. They originally offered me $70k trade in but when they realized I was transferring FSD they lowered it to $64k.

So I took $64k trade in, transferred my FSD to the new AWD, got $1k loyalty, $1k military, (they weren't offering the $1k referral at the time), got 1 year of free supercharging, got $7,500 credit, and got 0% APR for 60 months. Because I transferred the $7,500 to Tesla, I put $0 down when I bought it.

My monthly payment stayed the same from my $100k FS but I'll finish paying it off 10 months earlier and I get a brand new vehicle with 10 miles on it, a reset on the warranty, and a lot of fit and finish improvements over the FS.

The only substantive differences after keeping all my accessories and transferring FSD are the Core wheels versus Cyber wheels (take off the aero caps and the Core wheels aren't bad), and the lack of Foundation Series laser engraving. The grey interior looks nicer than the white interior so that's not a sacrifice for me.

Oh, I guess another thing I'm giving up is the new truck only has 2 locations to mount the cross bars instead of 4. They want me to pay $150 for the plastic pieces that have 4 mounting location for the cross bars. Not a huge deal.

Also, I told a co-worker who also had a FS about my deal and he did the exact same thing.

thanks for the insight. I’m pretty much running the same number and overall idea as you. The only big downside being tint/PPF wrap cost.

Can you stack loyalty, military and referral? Looking into it now but when I go to the loyalty program through the app I don’t even see the $1k discount on the order page.

Overall update after my test drive today. Took out a 2025 CT with core wheels and grey interior. I definitely liked the grey vs the white. Blends nicer and doesn’t reflect so much off the windows. I was surprised to hear the same whine of the electric motor I have in my current 2024 CT. My wife’s M3 is whisper quiet so I was kinda hoping that was more of an early CT issue. The truck was still quieter and didn’t have the door issues I’m having.

I left after speaking with the general manager at service. He’s going to put in the paperwork for lemon law buyback. My truck spent close to 60 days in its first 9 months in the shop and every time I drop it off it turns into a 2 week discovery of issues. I should have been more forward with it then but I just love the truck so much I didn’t want to get rid of it. I have such a massive list of issues and things wrong that I’ve actually avoided maintenance since its last visit in April and because the only service center near me is booked months out. I’ve had nothing but issues with certain items to include door panels vibrating (inside and out), connectivity issues, wiper issues, rust in the interior part of the door panels, multiple air suspension issues and a whole list of other problems. I even had the truck go into limp mode for a HV battery issue at one point. He said the process for Tesla to make a decision can take as long as 30 days but I’m ok with missing out on the trade in and tax rebate and taking my chances. Even if they deny it he said they will do their best to make it right. Great folks so I can’t say nothing but awesome things about the staff.

So now we wait. I’ll keep everyone updated with what they decide to do from here. Thanks for the input.

Tesla gave me $1,000 less than their estimate due to my trade-in being wrapped. They restore all vehicles to factory specs so any customizations lose you money. Just food for thought. You might actually get a return on your investment if you sell to a dealer.

I had the same situation but decided to keep
My AWD FS CT as I am still upside down on my loan. Tesla will lower the final offer after you pay the $250 and you will have to remove the wrap and tint.

For me, my AWD FS CT has no major issues and I will be waiting for the cyberSUV.
