Not all smoke is the same
Already exist.
It contains the fire. Does NOT put fire out but limits fire spread to other objects outside the vehicle.
But for a burning semi-tractor You're Gonna Need a REALLY BIGGERBOATBLANKET

I believe you misunderstand the product. Per their website, the blanket is designed to suppress smoke and open flame. During thermal runaway, everything is burning (carpet, plastics, upholstery, paint, tires, etc.) and those can be smothered.Actually it does put out the fire and in a fraction of the time of pouring “thousands” of gallons of water onto a fully engulfed vehicle.

I was so interested in this product after seeing it demonstrated on YouTube, that I will be contacting our local fire departments to ensure they have this very tool. I think the more local fire companies that incorporate this into their toolset, will undoubtedly reduce not only time on site when fighting an EV fire, but also reduce FUD on news agencies when they see that most often they can be fought in other ways and more efficiently.
I did not misunderstand the product and it does in fact dowse the fire while using everything in the kit, including the mister.I believe you misunderstand the product. Per their website, the blanket is designed to suppress smoke and open flame. During thermal runaway, everything is burning (carpet, plastics, upholstery, paint, tires, etc.) and those can be smothered.
To handle the pack, they offer a 10GPM mister that cools the underside of the vehicle from below. The blanket by itself will not stop thermal runaway.
The Model Y & Cybertruck packs are designed to be structural, crash protected, waterproofing AND some degree of thermal isolation from ambient temps.I did not misunderstand the product and it does in fact dowse the fire while using everything in the kit, including the mister.
See I get it, I just didn’t describe in detail the product as I assumed people could read for themselves. You could use a garden hose and slap the flames and maybe eventually put out a paper fire, but turn on the water and voila! The mister is considered part of the kit in full operation, without the mister all you are doing is trapping the consumed vehicle fire from damaging nearby property.
Bad analogy but so is your assumption that each EV fire is also encroached to the interior and consumed part or all of it, which can be smothered out from oxygen depravation, whereas the batteries in their tests and actual use cases, show in other videos that the mister in conjunction with the suppression blanket, actually stopped the fire before engrossing the entire vehicle or beyond just the battery compartment underneath the vehicle.
The blanket is not to be sealed around the vehicle floor in order to allow flames to burp out gases beneath the blanket edge. Although the (shorted) batteries can create runoff within the cell without much oxygen, this tool has proven to in most cases eliminate the fire if caught early enough.
This was also proven more efficient than foams or as stated earlier, thousands of gallons of water.
EDIT: I also forget to mention, I posted a link to an alternate product than the poster showed in his linked videos. Not all EV fire blankets are equal in quality or function.
Ok whatever, lol I never said it puts the fire out immediately, I get the runoff situation with cells already shorted or on fire.. the point being the mister is part of the system and actually puts out fires much faster than just dowsing water from fire hoses.. I really dont get everyone being so anal about small details. The Model Y & Cybertruck packs are designed to be structural, crash protected, waterproofing AND some degree of thermal isolation from ambient temps.
The mister does not immediately put out the cell fire. The cells in the pack that are already on fire will continue to burn until they have burned all the chemicals in the cells ( 5 minutes - 5 hours?). The neighboring cells that have not caught fire yet might be prevented from going into runaway and catching fire IF THE WATER from MISTER placed under the pack is able to cool the cells enough but the cooling water mist will not have direct contact to the cells .
