Looks like they are upgrading the cameras, wonder if they will offer retrofit even at a cost 😂

Tesla is upgrading its exterior camera sensors with a new Sony model labeled IMXOON, discovered in firmware code by Tesla hacker greentheonly, potentially replacing the current 5-megapixel IMX963 sensors used in Hardware 4 vehicles.
The camera upgrade appears timed for Tesla's Al5 chip rollout, which CEO Elon Musk said will enter limited production in 2026 with high-volume manufacturing targeted for mid-2027, though the new Cybercab launching in 2026 will use current Al4 hardware.

I’d say the fact they’ll release Cybercab with AI4 makes it promising we’ll actually see unsupervised on our trucks someday. It was looking iffy there for a minute. Sure, they’ll continue refining both hardware and software for pretty much forever, but, for the first time, I have hope my CT will actually be able to drive unsupervised someday.

Not really picky, however I Have two 2024 Foundations Series Cyberbeasts, $$$ and 1250 shares of Tesla currently, so, I'm heavy invested in #Tesla, and a huge Trump /Elon Fan
I'm not whining, nor short Tesla,
just want to know when the strikes go away March 2026, April?

I have a Model X and the summons works each time I use it. I can't stand the Yoke steering now,
Steer by wire and 4-wheel steering spoiled me. the X Gets less and less use.

again, when will Summons come?

Did I also mention Crabwalk? this should be revisited by the team.

Yeah, I traded my X in on the CT AWD earlier this year as it was obvious HW 3 isn't going to cut it. And we bought a Juniper M3 to keep at our second house.

My comment was simply a joke. I've been attacked regularly on this forum and Tesla financial forums for simply saying the truth, whether negative, positive, or neutral. Like you, I was early to the EV game, owned one of the first MS (#609) in 2012, have owned ten Teslas, have two Tesla integrated homes (panels, PW, Gateways, dual chargers), a long-term shareholder since the IPO, but am finding these forums difficult to stomach these days because the fanbois insist on cancelling anything that could be construed negatively or quoted out of context in the interwebs "press".

I'm a big believer in the concept that truth and justice ultimately prevail, as do stock market valuations, no matter what interim noise may do, so try to keep it real and honest. Yet, to some here, comments like yours represent an existential threat. Carry on.

I’m not threatened. I’d drive the world’s most controversial trucks. With a picture of Donald Trump on the side of all of my vehicles I’m not threatened at all.

This doesn't say that anything is being upgraded, just the drivers for another camera added, maybe.

Is it needed for FSD? 99% probability of no.

Is it because it may be cheaper? High probability.

Will they replace existing cameras? At this point 110% probability of no.

Much ado about nothing

That's excellent! We have some soft-skinned wallflowers here who wilt as soon as the sun comes out from behind the dark clouds.

Dave constantly spews outright lies, and whines when people call him out.

You know... one thing that hasn't been mentioned is this:
We still have a "dummy" camera as the "third camera" in the front housing of most, if not all, HW4 vehicles. I don't want to get anyone's hopes up... but... perhaps, that dummy has been a placeholder for something like this. Perhaps a retrofit is in order. I doubt it'll be free... but if I had to guess: This will be that hardware upgrade to sell customers who want unsupervised FSD.

Think about it.

Unsupervised FSD:
Software: $8k for supervised.
Hardware: Pay an additional (my guess): $7k for both CMOS / Camera sensor (Sony IMX00N) and software unlock for Unsupervised.
Total: $15K for complete unsupervised, however driver must be present.

Robotaxi:
Software: $8K.
Hardware: $12K for both CMOS / Camera sensor (Sony IMX00N) and Robotaxi Software.
Robotaxi software, for example, could include Tesla Liability Insurance, Remote Driver Access, Fleet Management access, etc.
Total: $20K for complete Robotaxi, no driver required to be present.

Again, this is all speculation. However, I wouldn't be surprised if something like this does happen... or I could just be dreaming 😅

Anyone done a teardown of the cybertruck cameras? Only ask bc I noticed they can see into the infared range... they can see my security camera ir illuminators clear as day.
What do you mean?
Generally speaking, any IR is visible when viewed through a camera because their image sensors (CMOS/CCD) are inherently sensitive to infrared light. IR usually becomes visible as purple/magenta or white glow.
Am I missing something here?

Life is so precious but very fragile. I admire all the early EV adopters and they also managed to load T$LA. Technology will keep improving and nothing to be panicked. There're still so many unfortunate people who aren't aware of EVs-not at all FSD.

We are Super lucky to be a part of this amazing company. 💪
