Tesla Cybertruck First (light) off-roading to see the aspen leaves 20250921_123944

It was her idea to the include the truck, i swear. lol Anyway, we drove up past Estes Park to Pierson Park Road which my neighbor recommended. Having never been off-roading before, I was a bit nervous and did not go too far up the trail, maybe 3 or 4 miles before turning around. I'm still on the stock all-season tires with about 18k miles on them. I didn't air down or anything as I don't know how much to air down, do i even air down on all seasons, or if all seasons are not up to the task. Needless to say I probably won't do something like this again unless I am with someone experienced or have at least a good set of all terrain tires.

Anyway, it was a beautiful ride. I was genuinely impressed with how solid everything felt and the power was undeniable. So smooth and quiet even on the rougher parts. There were a lot of tall humps in the road but the truck just sailed over those gracefully. A guy on a dirt bike stopped me to ask if i had a pump which I did so I got to use the AC outlets to pump his tires up for him because I guess he aired down too much. That was kind of gratifying. lol

One thing I really noticed which made me nervous was not have any reception in the truck. This meant the map on the screen was entirely blacked out and I could not see the trail or where it went or where any forks were in the road. I had my phone which was in and out of service so that didn't help too much. It would be nice if we could get something like OnX linked to the offroad mode or, since the destination was entered, the CT would just download areas of the map where we are going in case reception is lost.

Do I ever have a solution for you…

Here's one free month of Starlink service! Starlink high-speed internet is great for streaming, video calls, and gaming in even the most remote locations on Earth.

But, seriously, on an established trail like that, unless it got way more intense somewhere, your Pirellis will be fine and no need to air down. Have fun and keep trying new things! CT will continue to impress, I’m sure.

Also, yes, get a good set of A/Ts when those Pirellis wear out.

Nice photo! If the road is like what's in the picture, your tires are fine and you don't need to worry about airing them down. If you get into significant mud, sand, snow, pot holes or rocks, take caution.

Google Maps has an offline download feature. Before the trip you would draw a circle around the map you want to download and then save it to your phone.

Yeah. I know. But it just seems like Tesla should have this feature built in at this point. Especially on the truck since we are supposed to be able to truck things. lol. I guess it should be more like Android (maybe iphone too), in that there are smart downloads for youtube music, netflix, and maps. I am sure it will get there at some point, but it would be nice if they started out with the navigation in some way.

I totally agree, it would be great if Tesla did have offline map feature. But what car company does? Tesla is already far ahead of other car companies, those other car company execs should be embarrassed at how far behind they are.

I go on mountain Forest Roads and trails all the time where there is zero cell reception. Usually the basemap still works, sometimes the satellite maps works too, but only if it's been pre-loaded into memory. I'm not sure how it decides what to put in the memory but I've had good luck setting a destination in the Nav System (while still in cellular range) and then scrolling the map over my route at various zoom levels. Doing this I often have full satellite mapping for the area I'm spending time in, even after leaving cellular reception behind, although it's not foolproof.

My mountain cabin has no cell reception so I can also do this in my driveway using the wifi in the cabin to preload the satellite images.
