So I’m not understanding . The little cardboard heat shield designed to stay on the cup and protect your hand makes it easier to slide the cup in and out? Like Velcro as a permanent adhesive which is allegedly what it was originally design for?
Spectacular design failure resulting in a new use?
Does it just keep the 4 little non-slip grip tines from gripping the cup?
Everything has its own friction rating. The little cardboard isn't designed to stop the cup from slipping out, it's designed to work in the presence of gravity. The rubber is designed to keep something from jumping out when you hit bumps, the cardboard isn't.

So one defeats the purpose of the other.
