FSD camera unavailable?

Has anyone else lost FSD due to Camera unavailable, not obstructed or dirty, just unavailable, and in small letters, almost too small to read while you're driving, it said "FSD may be restored on next drive." WTF does that mean? because I tried to pull over, put it in park, opened my door to check the cameras, which looked clean and clear, and got back in my CB, I would call that my next drive, and still camera unavailable? and why isn't there an emergency tech customer help number you can call for answers? The only course of action is to hope it fixes itself, or the stupid SC that will probably tell you, "Well, since we could not recreate the issue," and it's working now, there's nothing we can do if it happens again bring it back to us" like you can just show up when shit go's down it usually takes me about a month to get an appointment and this shit happens when you need it most! long drive, heavy traffic, and you've been working all day, and you're tired, you just want to sit back and watch the truck drive. you've been barraging your nonbeliever passenger on how awesome the FSD feature is. And you can't even demonstrate it to him. BS

I haven't had that happen other than if a camera is dirty or has a stubborn water drop that doesn't want to go away while driving.

Were you driving into the sun? I notice in the late afternoon/early evening when the sun gets close to the horizon, my FSD can be “not available” due to the reflection of the sun angle on the windshield. Funny thing is at the same time my eyes have a tough time seeing the road too.

I’ve noticed when I manually turn off my headlight/DRL light bar then FSD becomes unavailable with no explanation, and if I try to turn off headlights while in FSD it puts up an error message offering me the choice of FSD or lights off but not both at the same time.. When I turn headlights back to Auto then FSD will activate, but that doesn’t sound like your issue.

Couple fix options:

- since you opened the door to check cameras and you were trying to satisfy the “next drive” in the error message, you must completely completely close the door, lock it, unlock, get back in and drive…that constitutes a “new drive” for Tesla. Since you didn’t close the door you weren’t on a “next drive”
- dual-scroll-wheel-hold reset (but I don’t think that resets the FSD computer, only the MCU/screen, but it’s worth a shot on the fly
- go into service menus and choose recalibrate cameras
- schedule Service appt for “Windshield Camera Area Precision Cleaning”

This was happening after I had Tesla clean under the housing on the roof / the tech broke the connector for that camera. This message was referring to the inside camera that watches the driver - because they mangled time connector - the connection to this cabin camera was lost and FSD must have this camera working for FSD.

The cameras fail also of course on their own,

Try cleaning that little camera lens looking at you/

Tesla had to replace the entire system under the roof housing that they damaged the connectors on when cleaning the glass-

Moral- if cleaning this glass for the forward looking camera under this housing - ask them not to disconnect the cable connectors /!

It was acting up all day yesterday. I did a lot of driving that day in all directions. I first noticed it wasn't going into FSD around noon to 1 pm After putting 10 sheets of 1/2" OSB in the bed from HD, I tried it, with the start FSD box on screen. It was there, but not in the blue fill color, and I had no indication why it was not working, so I thought it was due to the tailgate being open and the rear camera pointing at the ground, but after stopping at 7-11 it suddenly worked for a little while. I was already near my destination. The rest of the day I was working till around 6 pm, going home on a 1-hour plus ride, mostly dark already and that part I already explained in my first post, the sky looked a bit foggy, but if that was an issue, the error msg would have indicated that. Not Camera unavailable, I don't even understand how some hardware can become unavailable, like it's too important for you. You have to make an app. WTF is unavailable? Did it go on vacation and then to add insult, it says "MAY BE AVAILABLE ON NEXT DRIVE feels like you are being punished, No! Video games today, little Timmy, and don't ask why! But if you behave, maybe you will get them back tomorrow." We'll see what kind of mood I'm in. Today, with no indication of what happened, it worked fine.

I don't think it had anything to do with the lights or the cleaning of the camera lens
I recall early on, when it was a new truck, I had this issue a few times. took it to the SC for cleaning, but by the time I got it to them, the error was gone, and that's when they used that line on me
" We could not recreate the issue, so no action was taken as it is working as it should now." Nevertheless, this issue has popped up from time to time. Sometimes it's nothing, just glare, other times there is visible moisture trapped between the windshield and cameras, but that usually goes away on its own. The one time I did get them to clean that area, they damaged the overhead gear shift panel that also holds the sun visors in place. It doesn't stay in place now. I've been trying to get that fixed for a while now. One attempt was made by home visit. The tech showed up with the new part, but not enough foresight to know that it might not be the part itself, but the bracket underneath that is damaged. He made an appointment to replace the bracket part after the new panel failed to fix it. But I could not make it due to no loner car available, and if duty calls without transport, not something I can do. So it's been rescheduled again; that issue is pending my results report once it's done. But my point is, I know what the dirty lens fault looks like. And you are right about this, I did not close the door when I checked the cameras, hoping to satisfy a next drive condition. But it's back to normal now, so I may never know what that was about. must be punishment, they don't like my brutal honesty here on this site. I mean what should I make of it when no clear reason is ..............................wait I just became unavailable. Maybe I'll finish my post on the next visit sorry. bye! or not.
