I had to go to the service department about 10 times in order for this to get entirely fixed.
I had water moving around in my main cab underneath the truck somehow. The bed of the truck was constantly getting filled up with water. Every turn, every stop you’d hear water going back-and-forth.
you just have to keep going into the service until they get it right. I wish you good luck!

Can the tonneau cover be made waterproof? is the question I pose.
we just went through a rainstorm that was a few days long here in Los Angeles with reports of flooding in some parts
it even dropped a little hail and at some point, my backyard was under 2" of water
A lot of water came down so yesterday I'm doing some clean up.
open up my truck bed with my tools inside. and it's always fun to find your tools are under water and the toolbox is completely full of water. the moving blanket is also completely drenched. it was all dry when I put them in my truck under a cover.
I mean this kind of defeats the purpous right ?
is there a soulution?
IMO it is embarrassing how bad the water intrusion is. As stated here the slats themselves don't leak, however against the cabin and tailgate there is lots of intrusion. The sides of the slats and cargo bed does not leak also, so the design is capable of resisting much of the water intrusion.

This is especially worse when backed into your driveway - as the bed slope and water shedding to the rear is lessened - so the water tends to go against the cabin and get into the bed cargo area - Where you put your tools!.

Now we have to back into the driveway because that's how we get to the rear quarter panel charge port.

I had the extra slat installed. Did not help the water leak one bit. As stated above, all the water comes in between the roof glass and the appliqué.
Correct…because the “missing slat” IS NOT the root cause of water ingress. The video CyberGus posted shows the root cause and fix.

Tesla really needs to broadcast and make it known to owners that the missing slat is not actually “missing”.

CyberGus and CyberMo are right about the issue. There had been multiple posts about this early this year. I did that YouTube fix on mine and haven’t had any issues with water coming in. I posted with pics in another thread the reason why but short version is: the applique has an edge rubber seal that goes in a channel under the glass roof. Channel has at least 3/8” gap, early OEM rubber seal is only 1/4” thick.
The missing slat covers the holes (holes not all the way through, just water intake) which divert water to the sides (between the walls) and out from under. This is part of the water management system according to the Service Manual.

ok good luck
if I wait for luck to fix this it will never happen. Is that how you got your truck with luck? are you the type that is afraid of some negative talk so you ignore the issue instead?

im sorry some of you are having issues with the cover.

as a data point, ive got a late november build 2026 AWD CT and after the deluge of rain we had here in LA last week, i can confidently say, the tonneau cover kept all my goodies inside dry. i even have a large router/hotspot in the bed attached to the divider and it stayed dry, as well as the anker solix power bank. i have 3 tesla storage bins in there and some carpet towards the front ( reused the factory floor mats) -- all of it was dry. so i think later models have been refreshed back there.

off-topic -- i had a bit of fun in the water , too... 🤓

nobody is "afraid" and most of us already fixed the issue, which wasnt with "luck" btw, but when a helpful advise with the known fix is offered by one of the most knowledgeable and contributing member of the forum but rudely dismissed, then the luck is offered, you'll need it

Good luck

CyberGus wasn't saying you don't have water getting in your bed. He was trying to help you by explaining where most people see water intrusion. The cover itself is usually not the problem. The problem is normally the end by the back window and the end by the tailgate. The video he linked describes how to solve the main problem by the back window.
maybe, but he starts off his comment by completely contradicting what I said happen to me. you guys think I'm exaggerating or making shit up, whether or not it's been talked about. I have no doubt that it has been talked about. But guess what I missed it. That don't mean we cant talk about it some more, because you know you are not obligated to reply. and maybe you guys have a solution for yours already Great all I want is you to share the solution even if its sharing it again or point me to it. It hasn't been a problem for me until now. I don't need you to judge my character or my edict this is about cybertruck not me.

I don't need the extra slat on mine
I have never seen the holes you guys mention on my CB
but I have seen them on other trucks and know what it looks like.
so I will look into fixing the seal between the glass and applique .
its just so fuckn ridiculous when you show up to a job site in a fantastic truck you go pull your tools out and they are underwater because the rain somehow got through bulletproof steel and glass you feel like a clown at that point.

you know what I have heard that sound in my truck water slushing around but I figured it was the coolant in the battery. so are you telling me that water may have gotten inside the cab under the carpet and mats? and that's where the water sounds are coming from.

Not all service stations are created equally. My service station said water intrusion is within spec and the bed is not waterproof. Once that is communicated, there is no fix, because Tesla believes nothing is broken.

I had to borrow my parents $25k Hyundai Santa Cruz for a recent trip, because it was going to be raining, and their tonneau actually works and is waterproof. It is funny my vehicle that cost 5x what their's did isn't as well made. Trust me, the Beast is a lot more fun to drive and the tech is better, but it isn't constructed nearly as well as a Santa Cruz. The tonneau is just one very easy example of this.

insert a door edge guard on the weather seal of the applique that touches the roof glass. Mine now is sealed and yes I live in SoCal. With that rain that we had, no water got in during my drive and car wash. If you’re going to the cyber odyssey event this January, I can show you
