Hey everyone, wanted to share a quick real world experience that might help anyone dealing with the Cybertruck cant rail recall situation (after it's been wrapped).
After Tesla replaced the cant rail pillars on this Cyberbeast, we had to rewrap them to match the rest of the truck. For context, the truck was already wrapped in 3M satin gold dust black, which looks basically black in the shade but absolutely pops with gold flakes in the sun. When the rails got replaced, the steel was back.
Instead of cutting and hand trimming everything, we used our DIY cant rail/pillar delete kit and honestly it's way easier than people expect.
A few things that made this painless:
First, prep matters. We cleaned and clay barred the new rails quickly. Nothing fancy, just making sure the surface was clean so the vinyl could actually stick long term.
Second, the kit is cut as one single piece per side. Each rail is around 120 inches long and we refuse to split it into two pieces because seams there would look terrible.
Third, magnets are your friend. We used magnets to hold the vinyl in place while lining everything up. That lets you peel the backing gradually, check alignment at the edge, and make sure relief cuts land exactly where they should.
The whole install per side took about 10 to 15 minutes and that was while filming and explaining everything. Without cameras rolling, itâs even quicker.
A couple pro tips that helped:
⢠Keep the backing paper on at the edge when stretching so you don't stretch where you're pulling
⢠Roll windows down if the seal is tight, it makes wrapping under much easier
⢠Always post heat the edges. Vinyl is memory based and this step kills that memory so it doesnât lift later
It was honestly impossible to tell which side had been wrapped a year ago and which side was just rewrapped. Color match and finish were dead on, which is why we stick with quality vinyl like 3M and Avery Dennison. The color stability between rolls and years later is incredible.
If youâre dealing with a cant rail replacement or just want to black them out cleanly, this is absolutely a DIY friendly job. No knives near your truck, no sketchy seams, and youâre not stuck driving around with mismatched rails.
If you have a basic black that needs replacing, here is our kit: https://www.diywrapclub.com/products/pillar-delete-wrap-for-cybertruck
If you need a specific color, reach out to us at [email protected] and we can see if we can get that color for you.
Here's our full video on the process:
Happy to answer any questions if anyoneâs thinking about tackling this themselves.
