This build addresses a few wishlist utility items for me: (1) a handhold for when stepping onto the tailgate; and (2) additional storage.
I have no financial relationship with www.bestrestproducts.com, but it is where I purchased the Great Loop motorcycle panniers and quick mount panel. I also have their first aid kit in the truck. They have been a high-quality company to purchase from.
The copper pipe bracket is 1/2 inch type “L” (thickest) copper pipe that I sweat welded together and then attached to the Urander rack’s awesome Molle panel rear doors. The brackets are made from 1/2 inch stub-outs cut down to 2 inches in length with an 8-inch 1/2 inch diameter piece of copper pipe held together with 2 90-degree copper elbow fittings. (In my experimentation I tried different lengths on the stub-outs and settled on 2 inches because it allowed for the pannier feet to insert into the Molle panel while still allowing the top clasp to “clasp” my fabricated copper bracket. If a person were to cut some rungs out of the Molle panel it would be possible to get the pannier even closer than 2 inches but I didn’t want to alter my Urander rack.
Having 2 panniers provides 50 liters of additional storage that you can quickly mount and secure or remove as needed. And the copper brackets make for a nice handhold whether the panniers are mounted or not.
