I think so .. its a "carrot" to try to get people to be ok with the range they can get, but at the same time advertise an "option" close to what the original reveal was.
Agreed. I don't define removing the forward bed panel as "easy", which is why I put doubt in this ever coming to market. Its definitely not going to be a user replaceable thing.
To be honest .. this is one of those things that I would not at all be shocked if it never actually made it to production. It honestly feels like its a "PR stopgap" that allows them to put 450+ miles on estimated range and just had their Photoshop guy create a photo to use in the advertisement...
considering these things will likely require machinery to lift, removal of existing bed panels to access the battery connections, connection of high voltage wiring and possibly cooling tubing ... you are looking at probably 3-4 hours to install or uninstall these which means labor alone is...
One of the reasons many of the EV companies have been hesistant to go with just massive batteries is the weight changes driving dynamics. Will be interesting to see how much different a cybertruck with and without the range extender drive and handle.
Not to mention since it will be a drive connected battery it will likely not be a simple plug in and more so require a high voltage connection. So probably liability issues for trying to make it user serviceable.
This is the code from the app
{"code":"RANGE_EXTENDER","groups":[],"context":"configurator","options":["$CYBR"],"required":false,"exclusive":false,"default_options":[],"name":"RANGE_EXTENDER","long_name":"Range Extender","extra_copy":[{"type":"name[0]","content":"Est...
Nothing shown so far indicates that. Appears to be an installed by service center option and has to stay there. I'm sure both the weight and high voltage part plays into that.
Per the code on the configurator site .. its required to be installed by the service center. So probably not user removable either. So you are just permanently losing 1/3rd of the bed
Everyone has the same pricing. There is a tab at the top that is either "purchase price" or "probable savings".
They are defaulting to "probable savings including the Tax credit and gas savings into the purchase price. Kinda Shady
