Becoming the Cadillac of golf carts certainly is a viable offering and a use case that makes a ton of sense. An around town vehicle for golf clubs or beach gear that you can actually take on the highway if needed is kinda cool as a rich person's toy.
I haven't looked into the volume Slate is...
I am excited to see what happens here. The public has been vocal about how they want a vehicle with no frills for a decade, since the small car largely stopped being manufactured. Time to see if all the no frills people put their money where their mouth was.
I think that there is a larger...
Under 40k miles, you can get a Lariat for $37k near me.
Slate starts are $27k/28k are the numbers I am hearing. I assume you need to add $1k delivery to that, so base is essentially $30k. You will have to add absolutely zero options to be cheaper than a slightly negotiated vehicle with an...
I just don't think the price makes sense versus a used EV that does a lot more than the Slate. If it was one of the first vehicles out the door and especially if the federal tax rebate was still alive, this would've sold a ton. But now you can get a well optioned Lightning used for the same...
The wiper does a good job cleaning the winshield directly in front of the driver. What it cannot do is clean the area in front of the camera. These are the things 85% of drivers will not experience, but in heavy winter storms and especially slushy driving, FSD has no chance.
I am not sure what magical cameras you are using, 4 of the 6 cameras on my truck are completely blocked within minutes of winter driving. I keep lense wipes in my truck to clean the salt off of the front side cameras, sometimes it is so thick after a drive I need to use two wipes per camera.
Be ready to pull over every 60 seconds in a true winter weather area.
AKA - FSD with the current hardware will not work in certain cities. If the cameras become self cleaning on the whole fleet this will change.
Exactly! FSD is more like Super Cruise than a real automated self driving system. Anyone who lives in a place with lots of snow knows this. Tesla being a "California Car" is very much the truth.
Most people finance new cars. Most people use 72 months loans. With the current cost of FSD, that equals around $130 per month people will be paying to own FSD outright in 6 years.
I guess we will see what the take rate becomes when FSD is subscription only, but the price is arguably going up...
If Elon is correct and your car can make you money, then this is a genuine concern. The value of FSD could become whatever you would make driving Uber all day. No different than the value of rental income being a basis of a home's value.
Although we are already half a decade behind this...
I paid $10k for FSD in my Model 3 that is soon to be five years old. The resale value is so low on the M3 now, that I would rather keep it and have them upgrade it out of spite, than to get rid of it now.
Elon stated the cars would make us money and FSD was going to go up in value. Instead...
Either the Beast/S/X packages go away at that time, or you can still essentially buy FSD. I suppose you have bought a lifetime sub, but a lifetime sub is no different than buying FSD in a world where they don't let you transfer.
This is truly the optimal solution. Tesla never made a truck before and they obviously had no clue how to make a tonneau. Messing around with my warranty isn't worth it. I only travel with multiple carry-on suitcases now, all in Husky totes.
If I need to haul something larger than what fits...
