There were already reports that hw4 was at capacity. This probably is to run larger models with HW5 over a year out.

Sorry to hear the Model S/X will be discontinued. Our first Tesla was a 2019 Model S LR, and we loved it. The styling was almost timeless.

Sounds like they definitely needed an inbetween. HW4.5 is basically just an extra SOC so adding 50% more compute.
